Underfeeding and overfeeding and their clinical consequences
Garrow, J.S.
The effects of diets which are grossly deficient or excessive, or alternatively result in changing the plane of nutrition of a reasonably wellnourished person to a higher or lower level are considered. Kwashiorkor and marasmus are cited as frequently occurring deficiency diseases in children in developing countries. Several effects of undernutrition in adults are listed and anorexia nervosa is discussed. Obesity prevents the patient from having any other disease diagnosed early and treated well.
