Correlation and Path Analysis for Drought Tolerant Traits in Rice (Oryza sativa L.)
2014
Chavan, A.S. | Lal, J. P.
Wide range of variation was observed for drought related traits among 28 hybrids derived from 11 parents. Relative magnitude of genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) and phenotypic coefficient of variation is comparable. Higher estimate of heritability coupled with genetic advance exhibited by plant height, number of grains per panicle and percent filled grains. Panicle weight, number of seeds per panicle and percent filled grains showed strong positive and significant association with stay green trait and yield per plant. Seedling height, proline content, stomatal conductance, number of seeds per panicle, percent filled grains, leaf rolling and stay green traits exerted positive direct effect on yield under drought environment. Stomatal behavior and number of seeds per panicle had negligible whereas percent filled grains had considerable negative indirect effect on seed yield via stay green trait. From the present study seeds per panicle, proline content, stomatal conductance and stay green trait could be considered for improvement of genotypes for drought resistance breeding strategies.
