Observations on insect flight in a tropical forest plantation: II. Flight activity of Syllitus sp. nov. (Col. Cerambycidae)
1973
Gray, B.
Adults of the cerambycid Syllitus sp. nov. took to flight largely during the late afternoon and at dusk in a Hoop Pine plantation in Papua New Guinea. In the study area there was a noticeable decline in the number of adults captured in the sticky traps over the trapping period of 25 days. There was more flight activity during the day than at night. A weak directional flight response was evident during the day with most adults flying easterly and northerly, but at night there was no noticeable response. A greater number of females as compared with males (sex ratio 1.0 ♂: 3.5 ♀), were captured during the day and at night. Fewer adults were collected from traps around the tree furthest from the roadside.
