Early improvement of left ventricular function during caloric restriction in obesity

A study of the early effects of weight loss during dieting on cardiovascular function of asymptomatic obese patients free from heart disease found that a significant improvement in cardiovascular function in obesity is present from the early stages of weight loss. The study involved assessments of left ventricular function in 25 obese patients by serial poligraphic measurements of systolic time intervals during a calorie-restricted diet. Peak and recovery systolic blood pressure and heart rate were reduced during exercise.(wz)
