Employers' perceptions of dietetic team members' roles
1981
Argo, Jana K. | Miller, James O.
Information on 6 major task areas of a dietetic team (nutritional assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, documentation, and education) was obtained from 30 hospitals and 35 long-term care facilities in Georgia; task responsibility for dietetic technicians was contrasted to that of dietitians and dietetic assistants. The patterns that emerged from this survey of employers' perceptions of team members' roles revealed that dietetic technicians are underutilized in both health-care settings, although their potential is regarded as greater in hospitals. Differentiation of roles was lacking in both settings, particularly between the dietetic technician and assistant. This difficulty could be alleviated by establishing specific criteria for the inclusion of a task in the technicians role or by assigning tasks on the basis of perceived potential of dietetic technicians.
