A survey was conducted to understand the status of gastrointestinal parasitism in pigs slaughtered in the Bengaluru corporation abattoir, local abattoirs as well as from necropsy specimens. Thorough screening of 97 gastrointestinal tracts (GITs) of pigs revealed that 85 (87.62%) were infected. Simondsia paradoxa (4.12%), Ascarops strongylina (79.38%) and Physocephalus sexalatus (63.91%) were recovered from the stomach as single or mixed infections. Fasciolopsis buski (2.06%) and Ascaris suum (54. 63%) were found in the small intestines. In the large intestines, Trichuris suis (37.11%), Oesophagostomum dentatum (9.27%) and O. quadrispinulatum (5.15%) were observed. The parasites were present singly or as mixed infections. This is the first record of A. strongylina, P. sexalatus and S. paradoxa in Karnataka.
