Using multiple regression analysis, a second-order equation reflecting the dependence of protein content (Y = Nₜₒₜ × 5.7%) in wheat grain on wet gluten content (X₁, %) and thousand kernel weight (TKW) (X₂, g) was obtained: Y = 16.0570 + 0.6768[Formula: see text] – 0.0032X₂ – 0.7891X₂ + 0.0083[Formula: see text]. In this equation, protein content is given in terms of absolutely dry matter (DM), and gluten content and TKW are given in terms of 12% moisture or air-dry matter (ADM). When using the developed equation for forecasting in cases where protein content was measured without taking into account grain moisture content (ADM) and TKW was measured in terms of DM, these indicators were recalculated using the coefficient of 1.136. Data on comparative assessment of predictive capabilities and accuracy of the equation developed here and the one proposed for Kazakhstan wheat, Y = 5.3270 + 0.3159X₁, are presented. The linear equation developed for Kazakhstan wheat reflects the dependence of protein content on wet gluten content in different cultivars only in a relatively narrow range of variation in grain protein content, 12.0–17.0%, while the equation developed here holds for almost the entire biological range, 7.9–21.1% DM.
