Field experiments were conducted at Agricultural Research Station, Bhavanisagar during 2007 and 2008 to study the moisture movement and nitrogen distribution in onion crop under sandy loam soil. The mean moisture contents just before irrigation at various lateral distances from emitter indicated that moisture content was high in 30-45 cm depth near emitter compared to 0-15 and 15-30 cm depths and moisture contents decreased as distance from emitter increased. The maximum nitrogen concentration was recorded in drip irrigation at 75 % of PE with fertigation of 125 % of recommended nitrogen at 15-30 cm depth at all the lateral distances compared to 0-15 cm depth.
