Human milk in premature infant feeding: report on a second workshop
1977
Fomon, Samuel J.
Observations and suggestions of the workshop participants are offered. Milk from the infant's mother is most desirable; meticulous screening of donors is advocated. Effects of antimicrobial activity and nutrient quality during storage, freezing and heating milk are discussed. Specific guidelines for storing and using milk transported from home to the hospital are reported. A manual is recommended that would describe desirable procedures for the collection, processing, storage and feeding of human milk. Also listed are a number of significant questions needing active research.
