Extract: Food composites, each representing a 24-hour intake, were collected from 22 young pregnant women. Nutrient content of each composite was determined by laboratory analysis and compared with that calculated from food tables. Mean analyzed values compared favorably with those from calculations for food energy, protein, fat, carbohydrate, potassium, magnesium, and zinc. Comparisons were less favorable for 4 additional minerals and for the 6 vitamins studied. Possible reasons for the variations in analyzed and calculated values are discussed. (author)
