BIOETHICS AND ANIMAL WELFARE IN VETERINARY MEDICINE | BIOÉTICA Y BIENESTAR ANIMAL EN MEDICINA VETERINARIA

Английский. This article analyzes the contribution of bioethical aspects in everyday medical practice. The proposal of theoretical cut reflects on the relationship between veterinary medicine and bioethics in specific fields such as animal testing in search of an attempt to restrict the number of animals used in research, replacing animal models for non-animal and to use more sophisticated techniques to avoid possible suffering. These, considering the ethical duty humans have to safeguard animal welfare, those who have witnessed and been part along time on improving the man quality of life as an indispensable source of food, clothing, company and knowledge, the last area, considered as a problem for the high number of cruel practices that are developed as a result of it. In this respect, the resources for the animal protection have been the ban and the development of alternatives rejecting the use of animals as experimental models; however the inhumane actions go beyond the laboratory on practices that have been traditional and folk. Thus, bioethics is conceived as an important tool that aims for the rights of animals, their defense and protection of animal welfare, not only in the medical field, but beyond, as part of the actions of every human being.

Испанский язык; кастильский. El presente artículo analiza la contribución de los aspectos bioéticos en la práctica médica cotidiana. La propuesta de corte teórico reflexiona sobre la relación entre la medicina veterinaria y la bioética en campos específicos como la experimentación animal en busca de procurar la restricción del número de animales usados en investigación, cambiar modelos animales por no animales y usar técnicas más refinadas que eviten posibles sufrimientos. Lo anterior, en consideración al deber ético que tiene los humanos de salvaguardar el bienestar de los animales, quienes han sido a lo largo del tiempo participes en el mejoramiento de la calidad de vida del hombre como fuente indispensable de alimento, vestuario, compañía y conocimiento. Al respecto, los recursos para la protección de los animales han sido la prohibición y el desarrollo de alternativas en rechazo de la utilización de los animales como modelos experimentales; no obstante, las acciones inhumanasvan más allá del laboratorio en prácticas que han sido tradicionales. Por ello, la bioética se plantea como un importante instrumento que propende por los derechos de los animales, su defensa y la protección del bienestar animal, no solo en el ámbito médico, sino más allá como parte del accionar de cada ser humano.
