Determination of potential soil erosion in the Duruji River basin (North-Eastern part of Georgia) using RUSLE.

Based on the application of the universal equation of soil loss from erosion (RUSLE) and GIS technology (ArcGis 10.2.2.) and using DEM raster data, the article proposes a method for calculating soil erodibility factor (K), cover-management factor (C) and support practice factor (P) of the Duruji River basin (north-eastern part of Georgia). The results obtained indicate a high susceptibility of the territory to water erosion, even in the areas where erosion control measures have been applied. It has been established that in order to preserve the integrity of the soil and prevent water erosion on the territory of the Duruji River basin, along with agro-reclamation measures, it is necessary to revise the existing irrigation and reclamation structures and select new protective-control measures.
