Respostas dos invertebrados a aplicação de revestimentos antiincrustantes. | Answers from invertebrates the application of antifouling paints.

Antifouling paints are usually applied on boat hulls, ships and small vessels to prevent the growth of fouling organisms, including bacteria, algae, mussels and others invertebrates. Most of antifouling paints present biocides, which are slowly released in environment, may promote an effective protection with great duration against biofouling, e. g., Limnoperna fortunei (Dunker, 1857). This study evaluated the effects of the use of antifouling paints contains copper oxide on the invertebrate colonization (L. fortunei, Oligochaeta and Chironomidae) among different antifouling paints and over time. For this study, the artificial substrata of wood were used to determine differences between antifouling and control (plate without paint). The colonization of the invertebrate on the substrata was observed twelve months. The most abundant taxon were L. fortunei (Mytilidae), Oligochaeta (Naididae) and Chironomidae larvae. Differences in the density, richness and composition were observed between the antifouling paints and control, with larger values registered in the control. Higher values of the coefficient of community loss were observed in antifouling paints, indicating large dissimilarity with the reference assemblage (control). However, with attendance of the monthly colonization was observed a similarity invertebrate composition between antifouling paints and control. However, with the monthly attendance of the colonization was observed invertebrate’s composition similarity between antifouling paints and control. The obtained results confirm the hypothesis that antifouling paints with copper oxide hinder the colonization by invertebrates, decreasing the density and richness, compounding an assemblage with a reduced number of individuals and taxa (species and morphospecies).

Revestimentos antiincrustantes são usualmente aplicados em cascos de barcos, navios e embarcações para prevenir o crescimento indesejado de organismos, como bactérias, algas, moluscos e outros invertebrados. A maioria dos revestimentos contém biocidas, que são liberados lentamente no ambiente, promovendo uma proteção efetiva e de grande duração contra organismos incrustantes, como por exemplo, Limnoperna fortunei (Dunker, 1857). Este estudo avaliou efeitos da utilização de revestimentos antiincrustantes a base de óxido de cobre sobre a colonização de invertebrados (L. fortunei, Oligochaeta e Chironomidae) entre diferentes revestimentos e ao longo do tempo. Para a realização deste estudo, estruturas foram montadas com placas de madeira com diferentes revestimentos antiincrustantes e controle (placa sem revestimento). A colonização dos invertebrados sobre os substratos foi acompanhada pelo período de doze meses. Os táxons mais abundantes que colonizaram os substratos com e sem revestimentos antiincrustantes foram L. fortunei (Mytilidae), Oligochaeta (Naididae) e larvas de Chironomidae. Diferenças na densidade, riqueza e composição foram observadas entre os revestimentos e o controle, com maiores valores registrados no controle. Os maiores valores do coeficiente de perda de comunidade foram observados para os revestimentos antiincrustantes, indicando maior dissimilaridade com a assembléia de referência (controle). Entretanto, com acompanhamento da colonização mensal observou-se semelhança na composição dos invertebrados entre os revestimentos e o controle. Os resultados obtidos por este estudo, confirmam a hipótese de que revestimentos antiicrustantes a base de óxido de cobre dificultam a colonização de invertebrados, reduzindo a densidade e riqueza, constituindo uma assembléia com um número de indivíduos e táxons (espécies e morfoespécies) reduzidos.
