Mercurio en sedimentos del litoral ecuatoriano, crucero de prospección pesquera T03/10/02D | Mercury in sediments of Ecuadorian coast, fishery survey T03/10/02D

The present work was carried out in the coastal area of Ecuador under the Project ODEPLAN of the Instituto Nacional de Pesca. The evaluated information corresponds to samples collected on October 2003. Iniatially a total of 43 places were programmed for the sampling of bottom sediments, wich were demarcated with a GPS (Global Positional System). Even though there were collected a total of 41 sediments samples using a Van Veen drag, the same ones that were analyzed by Spectrophotometry of Atomic Absorption with Cold Vapor. The mercury was investigated in the total sediment as in the sediment ~,to 125 ~km, like a measure to evaluate its levels, to know its distribution in the study area that wich will allow the recognize certain events that happen with high and low frequency in the sediments besides having a base environmental knowledge before future investigation works. The registered levels of mercury were evaluated acoording to three established sub-areas for the study. The sub-area A which corresponds to the external estuary of the Gulf of Guayaquil, was the most observed area with 21 strokes of sediments, the concentration oscillated between 600 and 1000 ~kg.kg-1 of Hg in dry weight, registered the maxima in the stroke 25 and 26 (grids Q28 and Q29) located in the flow into of the Jambelí Channel with 1044.28 and 935.28 ~kg.kg-1 of Hg respectively, this suggests the influence of mining erosions coming from the south of the continental region; being a higher content in the sediment ~, to 125~km with 1530.46 ~kg.kg-1 in the stroke 25 and similar concentrations of surroundings to 1300 ~kg.kg-1 in three strokes made in front of the costs of Chanduy and Anconcito. In the sub-area B, collected 13 sediments, registered smaller ranges to 1000 ~kg.kg-1 of Hg in the total sediment, while in the sediment ~,to 125~km superior levels were detected 1000 ~kg.kg-1 of Hg, settlinng down the maximum of 1942,5 ~kg.kg-1 of Hg in the one throws 10, this would indicate the incidence of residuals coming from the oil facilities located in Santa Elena´s peninsula. Of the three studied sub-areas, the sub-area C registered the biggest content of mercury in relation to the whole coastal area with 3270,1 ~kg.kg-1 of Hg obtained in the total sediment, in the stroke 2; likewise, this sub-area registerd the highest percentages in organic matter, and more to the north of the same east element, no was detected. Value smaller to 1500 ~kg.kg-1 of Hg they were detected in the sediment ~,to 125~km according to the obtained results, the registered levels of mercury in the investigated sediments would be located inside the ranges you index them for non pollutef floors, and they would be associated with the fraction of fine grain, the detected levels also diminissh jointly with the content of organic matter, but this relationship is not completed in all the sediments, not existing a positive and significant correlation with the organic matter neither with the texture of the sediment. Their distribution and their relatively heterogeneous concentration, in relation to other studies allow to point out that the detected levels would be of residual origin therefore there would not be contamination.

El presente trabajo se realizó en el área del litoral ecuatoriano bajo el proyecto ODEPLAN del Instituto Nacional de Pesca. La información evaluada corresponde a muestras colectadas en el mes de octubre de 2003. inicialmente se programó un total de 43 sitios para el muestreo de sedimentos de fondo, los cuales fueron demarcados con un GPS (Global Positional System); no obstante, se colectaron un total de 41 muestras de sedimento utilizando draga Van Veen, las mismas que fueron analizadas mediante Espectofotometría de Absorción Atómica a Vapor Frío. El mercurio fue investigado tanto en el sedimento total como en la fracción del sedimento ~,to 125 ~km, como una medida para evaluar los niveles presentes, conocer su distribución en el área de estudio lo cual permitirá reconocer ciertos eventos que ocurren con alta y baja frecuencia en los sedimentos además de tener un conocimiento de línea base ambiental ante futuros trabajos de investigación. Los niveles de mercurio registrados fueron evaluados de acuerdo a tres Subáreas establecidas para el estudio. La Subárea A correspondiente al estuario externo del Golfo de Guayaquil, fue la zona mayormente monitoreada, con 21 lances de sedimentos, las concentraciones oscilaron entre 600 y 1000 ~kg.kg-1 de Hg en peso seco, registrándose los máximos en los lances 25 y 26 (cuadrículas Q29 y Q29) ubicados en la bocana del Canal de Jambelí con 1044,28 y 935,28 ~kg.kg-1 de Hg total, respectivamente; esto sugiere la influencia de las erosiones mineras provenientes del sur de la región continental; encontrándose un contenido más alto en el sedimento ~, a 125~km con 1530.46 ~kg.kg-1 en el lance 25 y concentraciones similares de alrededor a 1300 ~kg.kg-1 en tres lances efectuados frente a las costas de Chanduy y Anconcito. En la subárea B, se colectaron 13 sedimentos, que registraron rangos menores a 1000 ~kg.kg-1 de Hg en el sedimento total, mientras que en el sedimento ~,a 125~km se detectaron niveles superiores a 1000 ~kg.kg-1 de Hg, estableciéndose el máximo de 1942,5 ~kg.kg-1 de Hg en el lance 10, esto indicaría la incidencia de residuos procedentes de las instalaciones petroleras ubicadas en la península de Santa Elena. De las tres subáreas estudiadas, la Subárea C registró el mayor contenido de mercurio en relación a toda el área costera con 3270,1 ~kg.kg-1 de Hg obtenido en el sedimento total, en el lance 2; así también, en esta subárea se registraron los porcentajes más altos de materia orgánica, y más al norte de la misma este elemento, no fue detectado. Valores menores a 1500 ~kg.kg-1 de Hg fueron detectados en el sedimento ~,to 125~km. De acuerdo a los resultados obtenidos, los niveles de mercurio registrados en los sedimentos investigados se ubicaría dentro de los rangos referenciales para suelos no contaminados y estaría asociados con la fracción de grano fino, además los niveles detectados disminuyen conjuntamente con el contenido de materia orgánica, pero esta relación no se cumple en todos los sedimentos, no existiendo una correlación positiva y significativa con la materia orgánica ni con la textura del sedimento. Su distribución y su concentración relativamente heterogénea, en relación a otros estudios permiten señalar que los niveles detectados serían de origen residual, por lo tanto no habría contaminación.
