Fundamento teórico sobre tratamiento de aguas residuales por ficorremediación | Theoretical basis for wastewater treatment by phycoremediation

Las primeras investigaciones enfocadas al estudio del potencial de los microorganismos para biodegradar contaminantes fueron llevadas a cabo, a mediados de 1946 y 1950, este “uso” intencionado recibió entonces el nombre de “Bioremediación”. Actualmente tanto las aguas superficiales como subterráneas están siendo contaminadas como producto de las actividades humanas, sufriendo en las diferentes regiones del mundo eutrofización. Una alternativa para el tratamiento de estas aguas residuales es la ficorremediación, es decir la remoción de nutrientes y metales pesados a manera de tratamiento secundario con el uso de algas.

At present, both surface water and groundwater are being polluted as product of human activities, suffering eutrophication in different regions of the world. An alternative to the wastewater treatment is the Phycoremediation, that is, the nutrient removal and heavy metals a way of secondary treatment using algae.
