(193) Proposal to democratize aspects of the governance of the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants

The International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, andplants (Code) specifies that the approval of the General Committee(GC) of certain proposals (for conservation or rejection of a nameor for suppression of a publication) is “subject to the decision of alater International Botanical Congress” (Turland & al. in RegnumVeg. 159: Art. 14.15, 34.2, 56.3; see also Art. 38.4, 53.4. 2018).The governance mechanisms included in Division III of the Codewere discussed by the Special Committee on By-laws for the Nomenclature Section (By-laws Committee) in the years prior to the Nomenclature Section (NS) held in July 2017 at the XIX InternationalBotanical Congress (IBC) in Shenzhen, China.
