Caracterización de la superficie ocular, película lagrimal y glándulas de meibomio en pacientes con queratocono | Characterization of the ocular surface, tear film and meibomian glands in patients with keratoconus

Objetivo: Este estudio tuvo el objetivo de describir las características de la superficie ocular, película lagrimal y glándulas de meibomio en pacientes con queratocono. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio multicéntrico de enfoque cuantitativo observacional, analítico de corte transversal, donde se tuvo como población a todos los pacientes con queratocono que asistieron a consulta en la clínica de optometría de la Universidad El Bosque. El tamaño de muestra calculado para esta investigación es de 83 pacientes. Resultados esperados: Se espera obtener frecuencia y promedio de género y edad de esta patología corneal, así como también determinar el porcentaje de sujetos con grado de queratocono (I, II, III, IV y subclínico). Así mismo, analizar el porcentaje de casos de ojo seco evaporativo y acuodeficiente clasificados como leve, moderado o severo. Además, se pretende evaluar la expresión de la línea Marx, inyección corneal, hiperemia conjuntival y reacción papilar categorizándolas como normal (0), indicios(I), leve (II), moderado (III), severo (IV). Finalmente, determinar el porcentaje de la hipertrofia de glándulas meibomio. De acuerdo con lo anterior, se busca establecer la correlación entre la respuesta inflamatoria con edad, sexo, grado de queratocono, ojo seco, reacción papilar y disminución de glándulas de meibomio.

Objective: This study aimed to describe the characteristics of the ocular surface, tear film and meibomian glands in patients with keratoconus. Methods: A multicenter study with a quantitative observational, analytical, cross-sectional and prospective approach was carried out, where the population was all patients with keratoconus who attended consultation at the optometry clinic of the Universidad El Bosque. The sample size calculated for this research is 83 patients. Expected results: It is expected to obtain frequency and average gender and age of this corneal pathology, as well as determine the percentage of subjects with grade of keratoconus (I, II, III, IV and subclinical). Likewise, analyze the percentage of cases of evaporative and water-deficient dry eye classified as mild, moderate or severe. In addition, it is intended to evaluate the expression of the Marx line, corneal injection, conjunctival hyperemia and papillary reaction, categorizing them as normal (0), signs (I), mild (II), moderate (III), severe (IV). Finally, determine the percentage of meibomian gland hypertrophy. According to the above, we seek to establish the correlation between the inflammatory response with age, sex, degree of keratoconus, dry eye, papillary reaction and decrease in meibomian glands.
