Effect of dietary supplementation of algal extracts containing calcium-binding protein precursors on laying performance and egg quality characteristics of laying hens during post-peak production

The study was conducted to determine the effects of dietary supplementation of algal extracts with calcium-binding protein precursors on laying performance and egg quality characteristics of laying hens during post-peak production. A total of 448 65-week old Dekalb layers were used for the experiment. The layer chickens were randomly allocated between the two treatments following a randomized complete block design. There were 28 replicates per treatment with 8 layers per replicate. The first treatment was a typical corn soybean meal-based diet (control) and the second was the control diet supplemented with 0.10% algal extracts (MShell, Olmix, France). The experiment was for 8 weeks. Supplementation of 0.1 0% MShell to the diet reduced (P0.02) ADFI in week 1 to 4 and the overall period. However, egg production, egg quality characteristics, and egg shell quality were unaffected by supplementation with 0.10% algal extracts. In conclusion, the dietary supplementation of algal extracts with calcium-binding protein precursors at 0.10% do not affect laying performance and egg quality during post-peak phase of production.
