Sistemas alagados construídos de escoamento horizontal subsuperficial com inversão no sentido de escoamento | Constructed wetlands of subsurface horizontal flow by reversing the direction of flow

Com a realização deste estudo, objetivou-se avaliar o efeito da inversão no sentido do escoamento nas condições hidrodinâmicas em sistemas alagados construídos de escoamento horizontal subsuperficial (SACs-EHSS). Para possibilitar isso, foram instalados seis SACs-EHSS, nas dimensões de 0,6 m x 0,5 m x 2,0 m de altura, largura e comprimento, respectivamente, sem declividade de fundo, preenchidos com mistura de brita número 0 e 1 e mantidos em casa de vegetação, para se efetuar o tratamento de água residuária de suinocultura (ARS). Os SAC-EHSS 1 e SAC-EHSS 4 não foram cultivados com qualquer espécie vegetal, os SAC-EHSS 2 e SAC- EHSS 5 foram cultivados com capim tifton 85 (Cynodon spp.) e os SAC- EHSS 3 e SAC-EHSS 6 cultivados com alternantera (Alternanthera philoxeroides). Nos SACs-EHSS 1, 2 e 3 foram instaladas uma segunda entrada e uma segunda saída, visando possibilitar a inversão. Ao longo do período experimental foram realizados testes para determinar a condutividade hidráulica em meio saturado (Ks), no centro de cada terço, de cada sistema, e, também, cortes das plantas, para quantificação da produtividade de matéria seca. O período de monitoramento foi de 481 dias. Com relação à Ks, os valores analisados referem-se a um período de 813 dias. Em todos os SACs-EHSS foi aplicada, em média, uma taxa de carregamento orgânico de 444 kg ha-1 d-1 e vazão média de 0,020 m3 d-1, aplicada de forma intermitente, sendo o tempo de detenção hidráulica igual a 19,9 h. O monitoramento do avanço do escoamento superficial (ES) foi realizado com auxílio de fitas métricas instaladas nas bordas nos sistemas. A inversão no sentido de escoamento da água residuária foi realizada quando se observou que o ES da água residuária aplicada alcançou 50% do comprimento do SAC-EHSS. Fez-se uma única inversão em cada sistema, em datas distintas. Os SACs-EHSS invertidos foram denominados SACs- EHSS 1I, 2I e 3I. A título de comparação, determinou-se Ks em um SAC preenchido com brita, denominado SAC-EHSS 0. Ao fim do período experimental, foram retiradas amostras do leito dos SACs-EHSS com o objetivo de quantificar e caracterizar os sólidos intersticiais, as distâncias de 0,02, 1,0 e 1,98 m do início do sistema. A análise estatística foi baseada em avaliação descritiva dos fenômenos físicos, químicos e biológicos observados, além das informações fornecidas pelos dados coletados e analisados. A produtividade média de matéria seca foi de 11,07, 10,63 e 11,62 t ha-1 nos SAC-EHSS 2I, SAC-EHSS 5NI e SACs-EHSS 3 / 6, respectivamente. A sequência cronológica de inversão no sentido de escoamento dos sistemas foi: SAC-EHSS 2, SAC-EHSS 1 e SAC-EHSS 3. Ao fim do experimento, esses três SACs-EHSS ficaram totalmente alagados. Em todos os sistemas, Ks diminuiu com o decorrer do tempo de condução do experimento. A variação de Ks, do início para o fim do período avaliado, considerando os 3 Terços, foi de 2.259,5 a 1.035,1 m d-1 no SAC-EHSS 1/1I, de 2.146,4 a 574,8 m d-1 no SAC-EHSS 2/2I, de 1886,7 a 103,2 m d-1 no SAC-EHSS 3/3I, de 3.505,3 a 756,8 m d-1 no SAC-EHSS 4/4NI, de 2.729,0 a 304,4 m d-1 no SAC-EHSS 5/5NI e de 2.495,9 a 169,4 m d-1 no SAC-EHSS 6/6NI. Em média e no geral, a inversão promoveu maior acúmulo de sólidos voláteis totais (SVT) nos interstícios dos SACs-EHSS, principalmente na região 3, onde passou a ser a plicada a ARS após a inversão. Concluiu-se que a utilização de ES à 50% do comprimento dos SACs-EHSS como referencial operacional de momento para se promover a inversão no sentido do escoamento da água residuária não foi um bom critério, já que, embora tenha proporcionado extinção momentânea do ES nos SACs-EHSS, não promoveu aumento de Ks nos SACs-EHSS 1I e 3I, ou apenas aumentou, momentaneamente, o Ks no SAC-EHSS 2I. Verificou-se decisiva participação da pequena fração SVT presente nos interstícios, na colmatação, seja em SACs-EHSS invertidos ou não. Os valores de Ks não apresentaram boa correlação com o grau de colmatação dos SACs-EHSS, em razão da metodologia utilizada para determinação da variável Ks.

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of reversing the direction of flow in the hydrodynamic conditions in horizontal subsurface flow constructed wetland systems (SACs-EHSS). To make this possible six SACs-EHSS were installed with dimensions of 0.6 m x 0.5 m x 2.0 m in height, width and length, respectively, with no bottom slope, filled with pea gravel and maintained in a greenhouse for the treatment of swine wastewater (ARS). SAC-EHSS 1 and SAC-EHSS 4 were not cultivated with any plant species, SAC-EHSS 2 EHSS and SAC-EHSS 5 were planted with tifton 85 (Cynodon spp.), and SAC-EHSS 3 and SAC-EHSS 6 were planted with alternantera (Alternanthera philoxeroides). A second inlet and outlet, to enable reversing the direction of flow, were installed in SAC-EHSS 1, 2 and 3. During the experimental period tests were performed to determine the saturated hydraulic conductivity of media (Ks), in the center of each third of each system and the plants were harvested to quantify the dry material yield. The monitoring period was 481 days. With respect to Ks, the analyzed values refer to a period of 813 days. In all SACs-EHSS an average organic loading rate of 444 kg ha-1 d-1 was applied, an average flow rate of 0.020 m3 d-1 was applied intermittently, and the hydraulic retention time was equal to 19.9 h. The advance of the surface flow was monitorial with the aid of a measuring tape installed along the edges of the systems. Reversal in flow direction of wastewater was performed when it was observed that superficial flow reached 50% of the SAC-EHSS length. A single reversion was done in each system on different dates. The SACs-EHSS reversed were denominated SACs EHSS-1I, 2I and 3I. For the purpose of comparison, Ks in a SAC filled with pea gravel, called SAC-EHSS 0, was determined. At the end of the experimental period, samples from the porous material were taken at distances of 0.02, 1.0 and 1.98 m from the inlet, in order to quantify and characterize the interstitial solids. Statistical analysis was based on descriptive evaluation of physical, chemical and biological phenomena observed in addition to the information provided by the data collected and analyzed. The average dry matter yield was 11.07, 10.63 and 11.62 t ha-1 in the SAC-EHSS 2I, SAC-EHSS 5NI and SACs-EHSS 3 / 6, respectively. The chronological sequence of inversion of flow direction of the systems was: SAC-EHSS 2, SAC-EHSS 1 and SAC-EHSS 3. At the end of the experiment, these 3 SACs-EHSS were completely flooded. In all systems, Ks decreased during the conduction time of the experiment. The variation of Ks, from the beginning to the end of the study period, considering the 3 Thirds, was 2,259.5 to 1,035.1 m d-1 in SAC-EHSS 1 / 1I, 2,146.4 to 574.8 m d-1 in SAC- EHSS 2 / 2I, 1,886.7 to 103.2 m d-1 in SAC-EHSS 3 / 3I, 3,505.3 to 756.8 m d-1 in SAC-EHSS 4 / 4NI, 2,729.0 to 304.4 m d-1 in SAC-EHSS 5 / 5NI and 2,495.9 to 169.4 m d-1 in SAC-EHSS 6 / 6NI. On average and overall, inversion promoted a greater accumulation of volatile solids in the interstices of SACs-EHSS, especially in the last third, which became the point of wastewater application after inversion. It was concluded that the use of surface flow in 50% of the length of the SACs-EHSS as the time to promote flow reversal of the wastewater was not a good option, since, although it provided momentary extinction of surface flow in the SACs-EHSS, it did not increase Ks in SACs-EHSS 1I and 3I, or increased only momentarily the Ks in SAC-EHSS 2I. Participation of small fraction of volatile solids present in the interstices was decisive in clogging, in all the SACs-EHSS, inverted or not. The Ks values did not correlate well with the degree of clogging of the SACs- EHSS, because of the methodology used to measurements the variable Ks.
