EFECTO DE LA ESTRATIFICACIÓN DE EMBRIONES Y ESCARIFICACIÓN DE SEMILLAS SOBRE EL CRECIMIENTO DE Alstroemeria spp. IN VITRO

El género Alstroemeria posee 49 taxones de origen chileno y se caracteriza por tener flores de un gran atractivo de colores y adaptarse a una gran variedad de condiciones edafoclimáticas. Además, tiene un importante valor comercial como flor de corte. Sin embargo, poco se conoce acerca de la germinación de semillas. Con el objetivo de determinar la influencia de la estratificación de embriones y escarificación de semillas sobre la germinación y crecimiento de alstroemeria in vitro, y establecer el efecto de la escarificación y estratificación en el posterior desarrollo de Alstroemeria spp., se realizaron dos ensayos. El primer ensayo consistió en evaluar el efecto de la escarificación con ácido sulfúrico y corte a la semilla con embrión expuesto en la especie Alstroemeria magnifica ssp. magnifica. Adicionalmente, se evaluó el efecto de la estratificación con temperaturas alternantes de 25/7ºC durante cuatro semanas. En el segundo ensayo se evaluó el efecto de la estratificación en semillas con embriones expuestos utilizando el mismo régimen de temperaturas mencionado anteriormente en las especies A. exserens, A. philippi, A. pulchra y A. werdermannii. La respuesta al corte de semilla fue superior a la escarificación en cuanto a porcentaje y velocidad de germinación en A. magnifica ssp. magnifica. La estratificación no mejoró significativamente los resultados. En las especies A. exserens, A. philippi, A. pulchra y A. werdermannii la estratificación no mejoró el porcentaje de germinación, por lo que se confirmó que al realizar un corte a las semillas se obtiene un mejor resultado en cuanto a porcentaje y velocidad de germinación. Se concluyó que las semillas de alstroemerias tienen latencia física impuesta en mayor medida por la testa.

Alstroemeria genus have 49 taxon of chilean origin and is characterized for exhibit a wide range of colors and to adapt to great variety of conditions the soil and climatic. Furthermore, has an important cut flower value. However, germination is not known. The objectives of this study was to determinate the influence of the stratification of embryos and scarification of seeds on the germination and growth of alstroemeria in vitro; and to establish the effect of the scarification and stratification in the development of Alstroemeria spp. This study was conducted in two trial. The first one scarification and cut seed was evaluated in A. magnifica ssp. magnifica. Additional, the effect of the stratification was evaluated by temperatures fluctuating of 25/7ºC for 4 weeks. In the second trial, the effect of the stratification was evaluated in cut seeds of A. exserens, A. philippi, A. pulchra y A. werdermannii. The response to seeds cut was superior to scarification as for percentage and speed of germination in A. magnifica ssp. magnifica. The stratification did not improve the results significantly. Stratifying in A. exserens, A. philippi, A. pulchra y A. werdermannii did not improve the percentage of germination. The treatments of cut seeds presented better germination’s percentage and speed in all evaluated species. In conclusion, the seeds of alstroemeria presented physical dormancy imposed by the seedcoat.
