Avances sobre el control biológico de Dactylopius opuntiae

El presente trabajo, “Avances sobre el control biológico de Dactylopius opuntiae”, aborda la toma de contacto para la puesta a punto de un control biológico por conservación, de acuerdo con las directrices europeas de reducción de productos fitosanitarios y el pacto verde europeo y por tanto se realizaron diferentes vías de aproximación, para conseguir este control biológico: En primer lugar. la prospección de enemigos naturales del insecto plaga en la Isla de Tenerife, realizada en diez lugares geográficos distintos donde ha sido confirmada la presencia de los coccinélidos Parexochomus nigripennis y Cryptolaemus montrouzieri, concretamente en cuatro y tres de las zonas prospectadas, respectivamente. Además, fue también capturado un encyrtido de la especie Homalotylus nigricornis, hiperparasitoide de larvas de P. nigripennis. En segundo lugar, se realizaron dos ensayos de laboratorio. En el primero de ellos se midió la tasa de depredación de C. montrouzieri sobre distinto material vegetal, con diferentes estadios (L4 y adulto), ofreciendo las dos especies Dactylopius coccus o Dactylopius opuntiae. No detectándose diferencias significativas entre las distintas interacciones del material vegetal con los estadios y presa ofrecida, pero sí una mayor depredación de las larvas con respecto a los adultos. En tercer lugar, en una finca donde se explota la tunera para la obtención de fruto, situada en el municipio de Fasnia, se llevó a cabo un ensayo de campo para medir el porcentaje de eficacia y la supervivencia de C. montrouzieri. Aunque las circunstancias de una ola de calor afectaron el experimento, en el ensayo se detectaron diferencias significativas en la infestación de los cladodios testigos y aquellos donde fue liberado el coccinélido. En cuarto lugar, se trató de comparar la tasa de depredación de P. nigripennis con C. montrouzieri, obteniéndose una tasa de depredación de la cochinilla carmín significativamente más baja para el primero que para el segundo. Se concluye que el estudio llevado a cabo presentó posibles soluciones ante esta plaga. La viable actuación de P. nigripennis en explotaciones de cochinilla carmín donde la cochinilla silvestre sea un problema, previo mayor conocimiento del insecto; y la aplicación de C. montrouzieri como agente a corto plazo frente a la plaga de Dactylopius opuntiae donde se obtenga el fruto de la tunera.

The present work, "Advances on the biological control of Dactylopius opuntiae", deals with the contact for the development of a biological control by conservation, in accordance with the European guidelines for the reduction of phytosanitary products and the European green pact, and therefore different approaches were carried out to achieve this biological control: Firstly, the survey of natural enemies of the insect pest on the island of Tenerife, carried out in ten different geographical locations where the presence of the coccinellids Parexochomus nigripennis and Cryptolaemus montrouzieri has been confirmed, specifically in four and three of the surveyed areas, respectively. In addition, an encyrtid of the species Homalotylus nigricornis, a hyperparasitoid of P. nigripennis larvae, was also captured. Secondly, two laboratory tests were carried out. In the first one, the predation rate of C. montrouzieri was measured on different plant material, with different stages (L4 and adult), offering the two species Dactylopius coccus or Dactylopius opuntiae. No significant differences were detected between the different interactions of the plant material with the stages and prey offered, but larvae were more predatory than adults. Thirdly, a field trial was carried out on a farm in the municipality of Fasnia, where tunera is exploited to obtain fruit, to measure the percentage of effectiveness and survival of C. montrouzieri. Although the circumstances of a heat wave affected the experiment, the trial detected significant differences in the infestation of the control cladodes and those where the coccinellid was released. Fourthly, the predation rate of P. nigripennis and C. montrouzieri was compared and the predation rate of the carmine mealybug was significantly lower for P. nigripennis than for C. montrouzieri. It is concluded that the study presented possible solutions to this pest. The viable use of P. nigripennis in carmine mealybug farms where the wild mealybug is a problem, after a better knowledge of the insect; and the application of C. montrouzieri as a short-term agent against the pest Dactylopius opuntiae where the fruit of the tunera is obtained.
