Показать больше [+] Меньше [-]Nanomaterials have been prepared by many different methods including powder metallurgy routes (mechanical alloying or evaporation/condensation) and deposition routes (electrodeposition). Recently, a new method to prepare nanomaterials has emerged using severe plastic deformation. Analyses of mechanical properties of these materials show that highly different behaviour can be presented, ranging from high strength with low work hardening and poor ductility to high strength with good work hardening and good ductility; high or low strain rate sensitivity at very low deformation rates or at very high deformation rates. An attempt will be made to rationalise such mechanical behaviour of the various nanomaterials in terms of the types and structures of the grain boundaries present, which determine to what extent they are sinks for vacancies and dislocations, or can act as barriers to dislocation movement.
