Английский. In this interview, Mirna Cunningham analyzes the process of Autonomy in the Atlantic Coast in the framework of the decentralization of the Nicaraguan state. She explains the differences between decentralization and autonomy.  She illustrates how the degree of autonomy attained by the autonomous regions does not responds to a decentralization policy from the central state.  but is rather the institutional development of capacities by the autonomous regions themselves, to enforce their rights.  She points out to the strategies of the autonomous governments to develop their autonomy.  She analyses the mistakes committed by previous governments and the weakness, strengths and opportunities that the present government has to respond to the expectations of the people of the Atlantic Coast through the autonomy.

Explica las diferencias entre un proceso de descentralización y la autonomía. Ilustra cómo el grado de autonomía alcanzado por las regiones autónomas no responde a una política de descentralización de parte del gobierno central, sino que es el desarrollo institucional de capacidades para hacer cumplir sus derechos, por parte de las mismas regiones autónomas.  Señala las estrategias de los gobiernos autónomos para desarrollar su autonomía. Analiza los errores cometidos por los gobiernos anteriores y las debilidades, fortalezas y oportunidades que tiene el actual para responder a las expectativas del pueblo costeño a través de su autonomía.
