Estudo observacional sobre aplicação da ozonoterapia em cães com doença osteoarticular

A dor osteoarticular é o resultado duma doença progressivamente degenerativa das articulações, associada a dor, inflamação, mobilidade limitada e alterações estruturais e funcionais que contribuem para a sua progressão. Constituindo a dor o quarto sinal vital e sendo a sua presença nos animais uma ocorrência frequente, esta exige um maneio correto a fim de conservar o bem-estar animal e evitar o desenvolvimento de outras consequentes afeções. Desta forma, constitui um dever do médico veterinário mitigar a dor animal. O ozono é uma ferramenta coadjuvante que tem vindo a ser cada vez mais utilizada no âmbito das medicinas integrativas, devido às suas propriedades antioxidantes, anti inflamatórias, regeneradoras dos tecidos, oxigenantes e estimuladores da produção de ATP. O presente estudo, realizado na Cascaisvet, Portugal, tem como objetivo avaliar se cães alvos de tratamento com ozono, sob forma gás por administração retal, subcutânea, intramuscular e/ou paravertebral, demonstraram diminuição nos níveis de dor osteoarticular após ozonoterapia. Esta apreciação foi realizada através de um inquérito respondido pelos detentores, por avaliação do comportamento animal tendo em conta a mobilidade, resposta ao ambiente externo e ao toque e ainda, a resposta fisiológica dos pacientes após ozonoterapia, tendo esta sido avaliada através dos níveis de ingestão de água e de alimentos, e pela forma de defecação e micção dos pacientes. O presente trabalho não permitiu concluir sobre o potencial efeito benéfico da ozonoterapia no tratamento da osteoartrite, sendo necessários estudos futuros para compreender se existe efetivamente algum efeito clínico significativo da ozonoterapia no contexto desta doença

ABSTRACT - Observational Study on the Application of Ozonotherapy in Dogs with Osteoartocular Disease - Osteoarticular pain is the result of disease progressively degenerative of the joints, associated with pain, inflammation, limited mobility and structural and functional changes that contribute for it´s progression. As pain constitutes the fourth vital sign and being its presence in animals an often occurrence, it demands correct management in order to preserve the well-being of animals and avoid the development of other consequent affections. In this way, it constitutes a duty of the veterinary doctor to mitigate animal pain. Ozone is a supporting tule who has been growing in the scope of integrative medicines, due to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, tissue regenerator, oxygenating and stimulator of ATP´s production properties. The present study, elaborated at Cascaisvet, Portugal, has the objective to evaluate if dogs who have been the target of treatment with ozone, through its gas form by rectal, subcutaneous, intramuscular and/or paravertebral administration, demonstrated a decrease of osteoarticular pain levels after ozonetherapy. This appreciation was executed thru a survey answered by the dog owners, thru the evaluation of the behavior of the animal concerning to its mobility, it´s answer to external environment in addition to physical touch and, it´s physiological answer after ozone treatment, having this last one been evaluated thru the levels of ingested water and food as well as by the form of defecation and urination. The present study did not allow to conclude about the potential beneficial effect of ozonetherapy in the treatment of osteoarthritis, hence existing the need of future studies in order to understand if there is actually a significant clinical effect of ozonetherapy in the context of this disease
