Sugar Production in Belarus: Trends and Problems

Sugar beet and the sugar industry have been an important part of the Belarusian national economy. This article briefly introduces the history of sugar beet growing in Belarus, its export problems in the context of the political regime as well as trends in sugar beet growing after 2000. It also presents important Belarusian sugar factories and their efforts to modernize production.
