We examined effects, meat production, meat quality and feed costs affected with whole grain paddy rice and defatted rice bran feeded to 'Yamagata-Jidori'. Sixty birds were divided into three groups; two experimental groups and a control group. Experimental group1 was fed 35% replacements mixed with whole grain paddy rice (70%) and defatted rice bran (30%) in all fattening stages, and experimental group2 was fed the 25%-50% replacements in first-second fattening stages. Whereas control group was fed commercial feed only. The results were following; first, there were no significant difference in growth and weight of boneless meat in all groups. Second, the experimental groups were slightly higher of the feed conversion rate but lower of the cost of feed per 1kg of meat. Particularly the experimental group2 could reduce the feed costs by 25% compared with the control group. Third, the gizzard weight was higher, and the yellow color score of abdominal fat was lower in the experimental groups compared with the control group. Forth, in sensory test of breast meat, the experimental groups were approximately equal to the control group. These results suggest that feeding of whole grain paddy rice bran in 'Yamagata-jidori' is equally effective in growth and meat quality, and enables large reduction on the cost of feed compared with commercial feed only.
