We investigated the effect of changes in air temperature during a day and daily average air temperature in greenhouses on growth, fruit yield and quality in forcing culture of eggplant under CO2 application. 1. When we applied the temperature management with reference to that in the Netherland(air temperature is increased slowly before sunrise, maintained higher in the afternoon than in the morning, and decreased quickly after sunset), as compared with practical temperature management in Kochi Prefecture, there was no big difference in growth, the number of flowers and fruits. However the number of marketable fruits increased slightly, and the yield of those fruits and percentage of high-quality fruits increased. 2. When the daily average air temperature was controlled at 20degC, as compared with 17degC, plant vigor was less, and the number of flowers and fruits fluctuated weakly throughout the cultivation period. In addition, the number of days required for yield was shorter. Further, the number of flowers, total harvested fruits and marketable fruits increased slightly, and yield of the latter fruits and the percentage of high-quality fruits increased.
