We investigated the thiamine content in different group of pigs that were fed with feed containing thirty percent locally produced rice bran in order to differentiate the new prefectural brand of pork by giving it a trait as thiamine-rich functional pork. The thiamine content of thiamine enriched pig groups fed with rice bran contained feed was increased compared to that had no rice bran. Furthermore we found it was significantly increased in pig groups which were fed rice bran from four months old to the time of shipping as well as pig groups which were fed rice bran from a month old to the date of shipping. From these results, it was suggested that feeding rice bran for a certain period of time before shipping is an efficient way to produce pork with high thiamine content.
