Auf einer Versuchsfläche des Versuchsfeldes der Biologischen Bundesanstalt für Land- und Forstwirtschaft in Berlin-Dahlem traten an Tabakpflanzen der Sortengruppe ‘Virgin’ chlorotischnekrotische Schadsymptome auf, die weder auf nicht-parasitäre Pflanzenbeeinträchtigungen noch auf pilzliche oder bakterielle Phytopathogene zurückzuführen waren. Die immun-elektronenmikroskopische Diagnose ergab, dass die geschädigten Tabakpflanzen mit dem Colombian Datura virus (CDV) infiziert waren. Der visuelle Befallsverlauf wird dargestellt und Vermeidungsstrategien zur Übertragung des CDV auf Tabakpflanzen werden diskutiert.

Tobacco plants cv. ‘Virgin’ in a field experiment of the Federal Biological Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry in Berlin- Dahlem developed conspicuous chlorotic and necrotic leaf symptoms. These could not be explained as results of a non-parasitic plant disease nor of fungal or bacterial infections. Immunoelectron microscopical tests revealed an infection of the tobacco plants by the Colombian Datura virus (CDV). The visual symptoms of the infestation and possible strategies to minimize the transmission of the CDV to tobacco plants by vectors is discussed.
