Немецкий. Sustainable agricultural production of sugarbeets requires nitrogen fertilisation which allows optimum plant growth but with minimum negative impact on the quality of the beet roots by increased a-amino-N contents and the environment by undesired nitrogen losses. The influence of mineral and organic nitrogen fertilisation on yield and quality of sugar beets was tested in field trials on a loamy sand and sandy loam soil between 1988 and 1996. The results were set into relation with the findings of two fields surveys conducted in Northern Germany and Juetland (Denmark). In general on both sites the nitrogen rate was closely related to leaf yield, a-amino-N content in the beet root and losses during sugar extraction. A significant effect of the nitrogen rate on root yield could only be observed on the sandy soil while differences on a loamy soil could not be verified statistically. Mineral nitrogen fertilisation and application of slurry proofed to be equivalent with regard to sugar beet root yield. The application of slurry in spring resulted in highest losses during sugar extraction due to increased a-amino-N and potassium contents.
