Evaluación de contaminantes emergentes (Ibuprofeno) en el agua del río Tahuando

Emerging contaminants are chemicals of various types with environmental persistence that have significant negative effects on both the ecology of the environment and human health despite their low environmental concentrations. This study aimed to assess water quality through the analysis of the Water Quality Index (WQI) and to establish the concentrations of Ibuprofen along the course of the Tahuando River, using seven points as a reference (Angochagua, Punhuaico, tres cascadas, cantera San José, Romerillo alto, Piedra chapetona y Tahuando punto final). The methodology employed was experimental, using a descriptive research approach. Two field trips were conducted during which multiple water samples were examined along the river's course. Various physicochemical and microbiological parameters were determined to assess water quality. Additionally, an analysis of Ibuprofen concentration was performed using the HPLC technique. The results indicated that the first sampled point had 'good' water quality, while the subsequent five points had 'fair' water quality. The final point (point 7) at Tahuando received a 'poor' rating. These quality indices are directly related to nearby anthropogenic activities. Ibuprofen was found in the analyzed samples from points 5 and 6, with concentrations of 0.1079 ppm and 5.0107 ppm in the first sampling. The presence of this emerging contaminant serves as an indicator of anthropogenic contamination and agricultural activity. These findings underscore the importance of maintaining proper control and adopting mitigation measures to enhance water quality and reduce the presence of emerging contaminants.

Los contaminantes emergentes son sustancias químicas de diversos tipos cuya persistencia ambiental tiene importantes efectos negativos sobre la ecología del medio ambiente y la salud humana a pesar de su baja concentración ambiental. La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo evaluar la calidad del agua mediante análisis de Índice de calidad (ICA), además de establecer las concentraciones de Ibuprofeno a lo largo del trayecto del río Tahuando, tomando como referencia siete puntos (Angochagua, Punhuaico, tres cascadas, cantera San José, Romerillo alto, Piedra chapetona y Tahuando punto final). La metodología empleada fue de tipo experimental, empleando una investigación descriptiva. Se llevaron a cabo dos salidas de campo durante las cuales se examinó varias muestras de agua a lo largo del curso del río, determinándose los parámetros físico-químicos y microbiológicos con el propósito de evaluar la calidad del agua, así también se efectuó un análisis de la concentración de ibuprofeno empleando una técnica de HPLC. Se determinó que el primer punto muestreado tiene una calidad de agua “buena” los posteriores cinco puntos poseen una calidad “regular” y el punto 7 punto final del Tahuando obtuvo la calificación “mala”, estos índices de calidad están relacionados directamente a las actividades antrópicas cercanas. Se determinó que existe presencia de Ibuprofeno en las muestras analizadas del punto 5 y 6 con concentraciones de 0,1079 ppm y 5,0107 ppm, la presencia de este contaminante es un marcador de contaminación antropogénica y actividad agropecuaria, estos resultados hacen énfasis en mantener un adecuado control y adoptar medidas de mitigación para mejorar la calidad del agua y reducir la presencia de contaminantes emergentes.
