Lietuvos ir Belgijos dietetikos studentų požiūris į pridėtinio cukraus vartojimą | The Attitude of Lithuanian and Belgian Students of Dietetics towards the Use of Added Sugar

The topic of the bachelor thesis is to Lithuanian and Belgian dietetics students the attitude to the consumption of added sugar. The relevance of the research: the amount of added sugar consumed is very high, although is known for its effects on human health. We can find sugar not only in sweet products, but also in bread, yogurts, condiments and etc., therefore it is important to get the right knowledge about them and see a positive example, so dieticians can do those functions. The aim of the bachelor thesis is to evaluate the attitude of Lithuanian and Belgian dietetics students to the consumption of added sugar. Objectives. 1. To describe the most important aspects of the literature analysis about added sugar. 2. To reveal the attitude of Lithuanian dietetic students to the consumption of added sugar. 3. To reveal the attitude of Belgian dietetic students to the consumption of added sugar. 4. To compare the attitude of Lithuanian and Belgian dietetics students to the consumption of added sugar. The methodology of the empirical research: a quantitative, targeted selection research strategy (online survey in Lithuanian and English languages) and statistical data analysis. The results of the research: the statistical analysis data of the questionnaire survey have showed that the majority of dietetics students are interested in added sugar, what type of added sugar is used in food products and beverages. In evaluating students' knowledge about added sugar and sweeteners have founded the lack of knowledge: majority of respondents classified the added sugar in food products and beverages as natural sugar (honey, agave nectar, glucose, sucrose, maltose, molasses, corn syrup, inverted sugar). The empirical research have showed that the majority of dietetics students usually consume food products and beverages with high amount of added sugar a few times per month. Conclusions. 1. Global sugar production and consumption have increased significantly over the past decades. Many added sugar comes from a variety of sugars and syrups added to foods and beverages during their production. 2. Lithuanian dietetics students are interested in added sugar but they have a lack of knowledge about variety of added sugar, sweeteners. Although there are knowledge gaps, Lithuanian students responsibly choose food products and beverages. 3. Belgian dietetics students are less interested in added sugar, but they have a good knowledge about the variety of added sugar and sweeteners. Although Belgian students have the knowledge they tend to choose sweet food products and beverages. The analysis of the data showed that Belgian dietetics students' knowledge about added sugar is better than Lithuanian dietetics students'. 4. Comparing the consumption of food products and beverages with high amount of added sugar of Lithuanian and Belgian dietetics students it turned out that Belgian students tend to use yogurt with extra flavor, pudding and breakfast cereals more than Lithuanian students.

Baigiamąjį darbą sudaro trys dalys: mokslinės literatūros analizė, empirinė tyrimo dalis, rezultatai ir išvados Tyrimo metodai: 1. Mokslinės literatūros apžvalgos analizė. Šis metodas naudojamas, siekiant išsiaiškinti svarbiausius aspektus apie pridėtinį cukrų, daug jo turinčių maisto produktų vartojimo paplitimą bei sukeliamą poveikį žmogaus sveikatai. 2. Kiekybinio tyrimo metodas – anketinė paklausa. Šis metodas padeda surinkti duomenis apie respondentų žinias, maisto produktų ir gėrimų turinčių pridėtinio cukraus vartojimo įpročius. 3. Kiekybinio tyrimo statistinė duomenų analizė, naudojant Microsoft Excel (2013) programą. Šis metodas padeda susisteminti ir apibendrinti mokslinės literatūros analizės bei anketinės apklausos metu gautus duomenis. Darbo tikslas: įvertinti Lietuvos ir Belgijos dietetikos studentų požiūrį į pridėtinio cukraus vartojimą Darbo uždaviniai: 1. Aprašyti svarbiausius literatūros analizės aspektus apie pridėtinį cukrų. 2. Atskleisti Lietuvos dietetikos studentų požiūrį į pridėtinio cukraus vartojimą. 3. Atskleisti Belgijos dietetikos studentų požiūrį į pridėtinio cukraus vartojimą. 4. Palyginti Lietuvos ir Belgijos dietetikos studentų požiūrį į pridėtinio cukraus vartojimą. Rezultatai ir išvados: 1. Pasaulinė cukraus gamyba ir jo suvartojimas per paskutinius dešimtmečius labai išaugo. Daug pridėtinio cukraus gaunama iš įvairių cukrų ir sirupų, pridėtų į maisto produktus ir gėrimus, jų gaminimo metu. 2. Lietuvos dietetikos studentai domisi apie pridėtinį cukrų, tačiau jiems trūksta žinių apie pridėtinio cukraus įvairovę, saldiklius. Nors yra žinių spragų, Lietuvos studentai atsakingai renkasi maisto produktus ir gėrimus. 3. Belgijos dietetikos studentai mažiau domisi apie pridėtinį cukrų, bet jų žinios apie pridėtinio cukraus įvairovę, saldiklius yra geros. Turėdami žinių Belgijos studentai yra linkę rinktis saldžius maisto produktus ir gėrimus. 4. Atlikus duomenų analizę paaiškėjo, kad Belgijos studentų žinios apie pridėtinį cukrų yra geresnės nei Lietuvos dietetikos studentų. Lyginant Lietuvos ir Belgijos dietetikos studentų daug pridėtinio cukraus turinčių maisto produktų ir gėrimų vartojimą paaiškėjo, jog Belgijos studentai linkę dažniau vartoti jogurtą su papildomu skoniu, pudingą ir sausus pusryčius nei Lietuvos studentai
