Effect of iron chelate and iron sulphate on strawberries of cv. ‘Bogota’ was investigated at the Lithuanian Institute of Horticulture in 2003-2005. Strawberries grown on alkaline soil were sprayed 8 times during growth season either with iron chelate (Fe-EDTA) or iron sulphate (Fe2SO4) solutions at the concentration 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5%. Chemical leaf composition, plant development and yield were evaluated. Iron chelate increased leaf iron content by 1.6-1.8 times, iron sulphate – by 2.3-3.2 times in comparison with the control treatment where iron fertilizers were not applied. After application of both fertilizers at 1.5% concentration solution nitrogen content in strawberry leaves was increased by 7.6-11.4%, whereas content of leaf calcium and manganese decreased respectively by 12.1 and 23.2-31.3%. Iron chelate improved plant state but neither iron chelate nor sulphate had positive effect on strawberry plant growth and yield.
