Use of indices in environmental testing of maize hybrids

The article presents the results of environmental testing and determination of the environmental assessment of new maize hybrids in dif ferent soil and climatic conditions of Ukraine. The methodology used in the research is based on the determination of breeding indices, as well as the se lection of promising maize hybrids with a general high adaptive capacity in combination with high yield and harvesting moisture content of grain. The environmental test was conducted in different growing zones of the Steppe, Forest-Steppe and Woodland of hybrids Hart, Argo, HA Quinta and Damir. When calculating the breeding index of hybrid value, the best hybrids were noted, namely, BVI = 167.2 and BVI = 116.4, respectively. The use of these indices to evaluate the results of environmental testing allows us to identify hybrids with high overall adaptability for different growing conditions.
