Hyptis australis Epl. es una hierba endémica de la Provincia de Misiones cuyo estado de conservación está gravemente comprometido dada la pérdida del ambiente, su restringida distribución y escasez de información sobre su reproducción por semillas. El objetivo del presente estudio fue evaluar el tipo de fotoblastismo que poseen las semillas de H. australis, así como cuál es el sustrato más apropiado para la germinación y realizar una descripción del proceso fisiológico y morfológico de plántulas. Para esto se colectaron ramas fructíferas en el año 2017 y se instalaron dos ensayos, uno considerando la presencia o ausencia de luz durante el proceso germinativo, y otro con tres tipos de sustratos (tierra de monte, corteza de pino y arena), a fin de determinar bajo qué condiciones germinan. Los resultados determinaron que las semillas son fotoblásticas positivas, por lo tanto necesitan permanecer en la superficie para germinar, consecuentemente el tipo de sustrato no afecta el proceso morfogénico. La germinación es epígea y se inicia dos días después de la siembra, bajo condiciones de oscuridad las plántulas desarrollan largos hipocótilo y cotiledones pequeños.

Hyptis Australis Epl. is an endemic herb of the Province of Misiones whose conservation status is seriously threatened given the loss of the environment, its restricted distribution and the scarcity of information on its reproduction by seeds. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the type of photoblastism that H. Australis seeds had, as well as the most appropriate substrate for germination and to describe the physiological and morphological process of seedlings. For this, fruitful branches were collected in 2017 and two tests were installed, one determines the presence or absence of light during the germination process, and the other with three types of substrates (forest soil, pine bark and sand), in order to determine under what conditions they germinate. The results established that the seeds are positive photoblastic, therefore they remain on the surface to germinate, consequently the type of substrate does not affect the morphogenic process. Germination is epigeal and begins two days after sowing, under dark conditions seedlings develop long hypocotyls and small cotyledons.
