Английский. In 1908, Enderlein fond the genus Niphas, which differs from Semidalis in certain features of the head capsulae and the antennae. Its description was based on a single specimen, possibly lost. Meinander (1972) included Niphas in Semidalis on the basis of the wing venation. The knowledge of Semidalis absurdiceps is however faulty, because of the misplacement of the type and the absence of other specimens. S. absurdiceps is redescribed, compared with other species of the genus and illustrated, on the basis of a reduced number of specimens from the FML collection.

En 1908, Enderlein se aficionó al género Niphas, que difiere de Semidalis en ciertas características de las cápsulas de la cabeza y las antenas. Su descripción se basó en un solo espécimen, posiblemente perdido. Meinander (1972) incluyó a Niphas en Semidalis sobre la base de la nervadura del ala. Sin embargo, el conocimiento de Semidalis absurdiceps es defectuoso, debido a la ubicación incorrecta del tipo y la ausencia de otros especímenes. S. absurdiceps se redescribe, en comparación con otras especies del género y se ilustra, sobre la base de un número reducido de especímenes de la colección FML.
