Kniga, Marina | Zhuravlev, Sergey
The article defines the goals, subjects and forms of agricultural education of peasants in European Russia in the late XIX-th - early XX-th centuries. The main organizers of educational activities were government agencies, zemstvos, and scientific societies. The dissemination of scientific agricultural knowledge gained particular momentum during the Stolypin reform, when it became the most important factor in success and was supposed to cover the broad peasant masses. For the purposes of agricultural propaganda, the organizers used the following forms of work: readings, talks, courses, individual consultations, exhibitions. With the outbreak of World War I, this large-scale work was gradually curtailed. The article uses materials from central and regional archives, collections of documents, legislative acts, office work and information and analytical documentation, statistical reference books.
