Thanks to its multiple uses and high plasticity, ma maize is at the forefront of national and international production, and is used in industry, animal husbandry and food. Plant breeding cannot be conceived without high genetic variability. One of the tools for increasing genetic variability is the modification of the number of chromosomes, i.e. polyploidy, which can enhance the manifestation of traits of agronomic value. Understanding these manifestations and highlighting the important characters determined by polyploidy is an important task for genetics and breeding. The aim of the work was to assess the morphometric characters in 6 inbred lines of diploid maize and their tetraploid analogues under the conditions of 2023 crop year and to assess the interaction of genotype with ploidy level. The analysis of variance showed that genotype significantly affects all studied morphological characters, ploidy insignificantly influences leaf width and number of panicle branches, and the interaction of genotype with ploidy affects all morphological indicators except leaf length. The results obtained can be used in maize genetic studies and breeding programmes.
