Sonora and Northern Sinaloa Estuarine Biocultural Corridor: Community well-being and climate resilience | Corredor Biocultural Estuarino de Sonora y Norte de Sinaloa: bienestar comunitario y resiliencia climática

Objective: Evaluate the perception of indigenous communities living in 3 estuaries of CBESS, on their socio-environmental problems, and systematize community proposals that are the basis of a public policy for community welfare and climate resilience in biocultural regions. Methodology: Mixed design, with 180 semi-structured interviews in 11 localities of the three indigenous communities of CBESS. Results: The people interviewed experience economic deprivation, characterized by low income, food insecurity, and water insecurity, while the impacts of climate change and public insecurity are very high. They observe an obvious environmental degradation of the estuaries, which affects their economy and food. Limitations of the study: Only three of the six stages were addressed by time and budget. Conclusions: A multisectoral organization that gives life to the CBESS is favorable as a public policy of community welfare and climate resilience.

Objetivo: evaluar la percepción de las comunidades indígenas que habitan en tres esteros del CBESS, sobre su problemática socioambiental y sistematizar propuestas comunitarias que sean base de una política pública para el bienestar comunitario y la resiliencia climática en regiones bioculturales. Metodología: diseño mixto, con 180 entrevistas semiestructuradas, en 11 localidades de las tres comunidades indígenas del CBESS. Resultados: las personas entrevistadas presentan carencias económicas asociadas a bajos ingresos, inseguridad alimentaria e hídrica; mientras que la afectación por el cambio climático y por la inseguridad pública es muy alta. Observan una evidente degradación ambiental de los esteros, que les afecta en su economía y alimentación. Limitaciones del estudio: solo se abordaron tres de los seis esteros por tiempo y presupuesto. Conclusiones: una organización multisectorial que le dé vida al CBESS, es favorable como política pública de bienestar comunitario y resiliencia climática.
