Английский. Obesity is a chronic disease that affects the domestic dog and according to recent studies its frequency is increasing worldwide. Several aspects are involved in its development, such as: age, sex, genetics, the nutritional content of the food provided, the time of daily physical activity and the environmental conditions in which the dog lives. This disease is characterized by the progressive accumulation of fatty tissue (adipose tissue) in the body that eventually causes disease, affecting the cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, immune, gastrointestinal, reproductive and nervous systems. The treatment of this disease requires the attention of veterinary medicine professionals.

La obesidad es una enfermedad crónica que afecta al perro doméstico y que de acuerdo a estudios recientes su frecuencia va en aumento a nivel mundial. En su desarrollo están involucrados diversos aspectos, como: edad, sexo, genética, el contenido nutricional del alimento que se proporciona, el tiempo de actividad física diaria y las condiciones ambientales en que vive. Esta enfermedad se caracteriza por el acumulo progresivo de tejido graso (tejido adiposo) corporal que con el tiempo es causa de enfermedad, al afectar a los sistemas: cardiovascular, músculo-esquelético, inmunológico, gastrointestinal, reproductor y nervioso. En el tratamiento de esta enfermedad se requiere la atención de profesionales de la medicina veterinaria.
