Short communication Evaluation of a wheat (Triticum aestivum) varietal collection resistant to Helminthosporium sativum in the western part of Cuba | Comunicación corta EVALUACI�?N DE UNA COLECCI�?N DE VARIEDADES DE TRIGO (Triticum aestivum) RESISTENTES A Helminthosporium sativum EN EL OCCIDENTE DE CUBA

Yield and its components were studied in 54 wheat (Triticum aestivum) varieties resistant to Helminthosporium sativum, coming from the International Maize and Wheat Breeding Center (CIMMYT), using a multivariate procedure by the main component approach, with the aim of evaluating its performance under the tropical conditions of Cuba. Results proved that wheat collection was agronomically variable either for yield of for the weight of 1000 grains and grain number per spike. Eleven different groups were made up according to every variable value mentioned; the varieties from groups I, IV, VI and X were notable. Yields were high (1.5-2 t.ha-1) for the sowing conditions of our country.

Se estudiaron el rendimiento y sus componentes en un grupo de 54 variedades de trigo (Triticum aestivum) resistentes al Helminthosporium sativum, procedentes de una colección del Centro de Investigaciones para el Mejoramiento de Maíz y Trigo (CIMMYT) de México. Se realizó un análisis multivariado por el método de componentes principales, con el objetivo de evaluar su comportamiento en las condiciones tropicales de Cuba. Los resultados obtenidos mostraron que la colección de trigo evaluada resultó variable en cuanto a su comportamiento agronómico, tanto para el rendimiento como para el peso de 1000 granos y el número de granos por espiga, se formaron 11 grupos diferentes según el valor de las variables mencionadas, destacàndose en su comportamiento las variedades que formaron los grupos I, IV, VI y X. Los rendimientos alcanzados fueron altos (1.5-2 t.ha�??1) para las condiciones de siembra de nuestro país.
