The effect of some organic fertilizers on the production and quality characteristics of (Cucumus sativus L )cucumbers and on some soil .properties

This study was conducted in the Burmana Al-Mashaykh district of Tartous Governorate in the fall season of 2021, with the aim of determining the type of organic fertilizer that is qualified to obtain the best vegetative growth, the best productivity and quality of cucumber fruits and to reduce the negative impact of chemical fertilization in greenhouses. Four types of organic fertilizers were used in the experiment (cow manure, poultry manure, sheep manure, and goat waste), in addition to the control treatment, which adopted mineral fertilization. The results showed that the poultry dung fertilization treatment and the sheep dung fertilization treatment were superior with values with significant differences over the rest of the treatments in terms of: stem diameter, leaf surface index, and plant productivity, which reached 7.046 kg/plant (22kg/m2) for the poultry dung fertilization treatment, followed by the sheep dung fertilization treatment. 6.99 kg/plant (21.971 kg/m2). The effect of the type of organic fertilizer added to the soil on the qualitative characteristics of the fruits, as all organic fertilization treatments exceeded their vitamin C content, which ranged between 6.7-10.17 mg/100 g fresh material, over the control (6.47 mg/100 g fresh material) with significant differences. The percentage of nitrates in the control treatment was 182.72 mg/kg, while organic fertilization reduced the percentage of nitrates in the fruits and ranged between 66.5- 81.05 mg/kg. The lowest value of nitrates was recorded in the cow dung treatment. Organic fertilization contributed to enriching the soil with macronutrients (N.P.K.) in varying proportions in the treatments (poultry dung, sheep manure, and goat waste), while the soil content of macronutrients (N.P.K.) decreased in the control treatment and the treatment with cow manure. The effect of the type of organic fertilizer added to the experiment’s parameters on the economic feasibility of growing cucumbers in greenhouses compared to the control. The results of calculating the economic index to measure costs showed that the use of organic fertilization with poultry manure, sheep manure, and goat manure contributed to increasing the net profit and profitability coefficient compared to the control. .
