Importance of yak in the high-altitude agriculture
2025
Loat, Shubham | Sarkar, Mihir
Livestock is an essential component of the Indian agricultural sector. The distinct physical, economic, and sociocultural features of the eight states that make up the north eastern region of India-the seven sisters namely, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura, as well as their single brother state, Sikkim-give it a distinct identity. Numerous animal genetic resources, such as cattle, buffalo, sheep, goats, pigs, horses, and many more are found in north eastern India. In addition to these conventional livestock species, NEH region has an accountable population of the yaks. Thus, this manuscript's primary focus willbe on the importance of yaks in the high-altitude agriculture and ultimately to the sustainable development of the northeastern Indian region.
