Studies on porcine parvovirus inactivated vaccine and titration of serum neutralizing antibody
1988
Kwon, H.J. | Yeh, J.G. | Lee, C.K. (Bayer Veterinary Medicine Research Institute)
A porcine parvovirus inactivated vaccine was prepared and inoculated to 7 piglets and also 8 guinea-pigs, and their serum antibodies were titrated. Twenty-two field serum samples of unvaccinated sows were also tested by SN and HI methods. It was observed that SN test was superior over HI test. Therfore, it is suggested that the SN test could well be used in the detection of serum antibody for PPV in vaccinated pigs

1988
Kang, Y.B. | Kim, S.H. | Wee, S.H. (Rural Development Administration, Anyang (Korea R.). Veterinary Research Institute)
A preliminary survey of Sarcocystis species in the slaughtered cattle in Seoul was undertaken during October through December 1987, using digestion diagnostic technique for the heart muscle specimens digested in 0.5 % trypsin solution. Results indicated that 41.5 % of 159 bovine hearts were infected with Sarcocystis proliferative forms. High frequencies in the exotic dairy cattle (42.2%) and the Korean native cattle (41.7%) were noticed in comparison with low frequency in the cross breed (25.0%). No differences were indicated between the sexes of the host animals, although an age difference was noticed as 48.9 % in cattle older than four years in comparison with 39.0 % and 37.1 % in younger than two years and in two to four years, respectively

1988
Kim, S.B. (Kyongsang National Univ., Chinju (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine)
The present study was done to demonstrate ADV antigens in frozen and paraffin sections from ADV-infected pigs and cell cultures by using of the IGS method. Tissue specimens from 3 young pigs infected with ADV-phylaxia strain and of 2 healthy pigs were used. Fibroblastic cells originated from pig brain and BHK cells were grown and confluent monolayers were infected with the virus. Two monoclonal antibodies and a specific hyperimmune serum to ADV were used as the source of primary antibodies for both the IGS and immunoperoxidase methods. Application of the IGS method yielded a black fine granular reaction in positive areas, and the results were superior to those obtained using the immuno-peroxidase technique for all cases tested. The IGS method might be useful in the detection of various viral antigens in tissue sections

1988
Kang, C.B. (Kyongsang National Univ., Chinju (Korea R.). Coll. of Agriculture)
The present study was carried out to investigate the serum enzyme activities of racehorses. The enzymes investigated were aspartate and alanine aminotranserase (GOT, GPT), gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase(gamma-GTP), Lactic dehydrogenase(LDH), creatine phosphokinase(CPK), and alkaline phosphatase(ALP). Animals used were 30 healthy racehorse(female 17, male 13) average weighing 435kg and were from 2 to 8 years of age. LDH activity was progressively decreased with age and next in the order of GOT and CPK activities. GOT and gamma-GPT activities were not changed with age but ALP activity tended to be decreased with age. Activities of GOT, GPT, gamma-GTP and ALP were higher in female than in male. There was no difference in CPK activity by sex, and no difference was found out among breeds

1988
Park, H.S. | Suh, D.S. (Chonnam National Univ., Kwangju (Korea R.). Coll. of Veterinary Medicine)
Blood coagulation time, bleeding time, clot retraction ability, thrombocyte counts and hematological values under electroacupuncture anesthesia and medicament anesthesia, using 10 mongrel dogs were compared. Blood coagulation time under electroacpuncture anesthesia was shorther than that under medicament anesthesia (p0.001). Bleeding time under electroacupunture anesthesia was shorter than that under medicament anesthesia (p0.01). Clot retraction ability under electroacupuncture anesthesia was better than that under medicament anesthesia (p0.01). Thrombocyte counts under electroacupuncture anesthesia was more increased than that under medicament anesthesia (p0.05). Erythrocyte counts, hematocrit values, hemoglobin contents and leukocytes counts were decreased (p0.01) under medicament anesthesia in comparison with control group, but there was no significant difference under electroacupuncture anesthesia

1988
Kim, K.S. | Park, J.H. (Kyongbuk National Univ., Taegu (Korea R.). Coll. of Veterinary Medicine)
Xylazine hydrochloride is a widely used analgesic, sedative and muscle relaxant in veterinary clinic. Yohimbine hydrochloride and 4-aminopyridine are known as antagonists of xylazine hydrochloride. This paper investigated whether or not there exists an antagonism of yohimbine hydrochloride and 4-aminopyridine to xylazine hydrochloride. After xylazine hydrochloride administration, the gizzard motility in chicken was instantly inhibited in relaxation state, and this state was prolonged as the dose was increased. After yohimbine hydrochloride administration, the gizzard motility in chicken showed increase of contractile frequency. After 4-aminopyridine administration, the gizzard motility in chicken was gradually recovered next to decrease of contractile amplitude and frequency. After the combination of yohimbine hydrochloride and 4-aminopyridine administration, the gizzard motility in chicken showed increase of amplitude and radical increase of frequency. After xylazine hydrochloride administration, the relaxation time was shortened by yohimbine hydrochloride, 4-aminopyridine and the combination of yohimbine hydrochloride and 4-aminopyridine. In conclusion, the gizzard motility in chicken was inhibited by xylazine hydrochloride, and this effect was antagonized by combination of yohimbine hydrochloride and 4-aminopyridine

1988
Kang, Y.B. (Rural Development Administration, Anyang (Korea R.). Veterinary Research Institute)
Ixodes signatus nymphs were subjected to the scanning electron microscopy for the observation of the major physiological sense organs including Haller's organ. Funger prints and variable sensory setae were found on the body surface, and especially well developed setae were identified on the article IV and on the anal lobes. A central button-like organelle and numerous small holes were found in the spiracular plate. The Haller's organ was identified at the distal point of the tarsus I and regarded as the major sensory organ, chemoreceptor. Two types of sensory setae were observed, the shorter ones in front of the organ and the longer ones in distal front as well as behind the organ. The fully opened organ was ellipsoidal and a total of seven basiconic sensory pegs rooted deeply and shaped like well arranged hooks were found inside the organ
