RESPONSE OF MULTI CUT FODDER SORGHUM WITH THE APPLICATION OF SOURCES OF IRRIGATION AND NUTRIENTS Полный текст
2025
C. Vennila | T. Ananthi
Multicut fodder sorghum Co (FS) 29 was evaluated for its growth and yield performance with the application of different sources of irrigation and nutrients. The experiment was conducted in split plot design with three replications. Main plot consists of treatments with application of irrigation through ground water (I1), domestic sewage water (I2) and ground and domestic sewage water alternatively (I3). The sub plots consist of no fertilisers (control) (N1), application of farm yard manure alone (FYM alone) (N2), farmyard manure + NPK (FYM + NPK) (N3) and NPK alone (N4). The application of domestic sewage water along with FYM + NPK nutrients as per the treatment schedule resulted in higher plant height, leaf length, number of leaves, biomass production, dry matter and biomass yield of multicut fodder sorghum. However, pertaining to nutrient application, nitrogen uptake was higher with application of FYM +NPK but found on par with the application of NPK alone and application of FYM alone.

A study was conducted to evaluate external and internal egg quality characters of three chicken breeds/ ecotypes namely, indigenous Siruvidai, TANUVAS Aseel and White Leghorn. A total of 180 eggs (120 eggs from Siruvidai chicken, 30 eggs from TANUVAS Aseel and 30 eggs from White Leghorn) were subjected to this study. The weight, length, width and surface area of White Leghorn eggs were significantly (P<0.05) higher than those of TANUVAS Aseel and indigenous Siruvidai chicken. Shape index was found to be significantly (P<0.05 higher in Siruvidai chicken eggs compared to that of TANUVAS Aseel and White Leghorn. Among the internal egg qualities, the height and width of albumen and albumen index were significantly (P<0.05) higher in White Leghorn chicken eggs compared to that of TANUVAS Aseel and Siruvidai chicken. Yolk height and yolk index of three breeds showed no significant difference among breeds. Yolk width was significantly (P<0.05) higher in TANUVAS Aseel compared to that of Siruvidai chicken. Yolk colour was significantly (P<0.05) higher in TANUVAS Aseel and Siruvidai chicken compared to that of White Leghorn. Shell thickness was significantly (P<0.05) higher in TANUVAS Aseel and White Leghorn as compared to Siruvidai chicken. Haugh unit was significantly (P<0.05) higher in White Leghorn compared to TANUVAS Aseel and Siruvidai chicken. The results revealed that the egg quality characters like egg weight, egg length, egg width, shape index, surface area, albumen height, albumen index, shell thickness and Haugh unit of indigenous Siruvidai chicken is different from other indigenous breed like Aseel and exotic breed like White Leghorn.

A study was conducted in four flood-prone villages at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Assam Agricultural University, Dhubri to assess the production performance of Khaki Campbell ducks and the economics of rearing them under NICRA (National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture) project. A total of 10 farmers were selected from Dhubri village on the basis of their experience in duck farming. Two hundred day-old Khaki Campbell ducklings, twenty numbers irrespective of sex per household, were distributed and reared up to 72 weeks. On attaining 30th week of age, the male ducks were sold out. The data including body weight, mortality, age at first egg and egg production were recorded. The average age at first egg was 163.0±3.6 days, and 30th week mean body weight was 1.8±0.1 kg. The mean egg production and mortality rate were 180.8±4.1 and 13% respectively during the study period. It was found from the study that Khaki Campbell duck farming has contributed notably to the livelihood of the rural farmers with benefit-cost ratio of 1.87.

Bone samples (sternum) were collected from three carcasses of white-breasted waterhen died were brought for postmortem examination to the Department of Veterinary Pathology, Madras Veterinary College, Chennai. The sternum was quadrilateral in shape. The longitudinal groove on the body of the sternum extended proximally and disappeared distally. The antero-lateral process was large, three-sided polygon shaped. Postero-lateral process was clamp-like at its posterior end. Postero-lateral process extended beyond the level of body of the sternum. Foramen ovale wasnoticed in the form of a W- shaped oval notch between the body of the sternum and the postero-lateral process. The anterior border of body of the sternum was noticed with two medial pneumatic notches.

Follicle like structures with a minimum of 17 mm diameter and persisting for more than 6 days in the absence of corpus luteum is called as follicular cyst. It is the hypothalamo-hypophyseo gonadal axis that governs the reproductive events primarily. Plasma is a medium that reflects the changes in any organ apart from providing nutrients and draining the metabolic wastes. Cows brought for infertility treatment were screened and cows which were diagnosed as follicular cyst randomly allotted in to four groups of eight cows each. Different groups were subjected to different treatment protocols viz, Regular co-synch protocol, modified co-synch protocol, Trans-gluteal follicular cyst evacuation technique and trans-gluteal follicular cyst evacuation technique cum modified co-synch protocol for Group I, II, III and IV, respectively. Blood samples were collected from all the cows of different groups on day 0 (initiation of treatment), 7 and 9 of treatment and were analyzed for biochemical parameters. Cholesterol, triglyceride, total protein, calcium and phosphorus concentration was quantified using an automatic analyser UV-VIS spectrophotometer. There was no significant difference (P > 0.05) noticed between the mean concentration of biochemical parameters of different treatment groups, on days 0 and 7 in serum. The mean concentrations of cholesterol were 116.13±20.28, 59.67±10.50, 70.88±6.57 and 64.00±8.36 mg/dl in Group I, II, III and IV cows, respectively and were significantly (P < 0.05) higher in Group I. The mean concentration of all other biochemical parameters were non-significant (P > 0.05) between all treatment groups, on day 9 in serum. This might be due to steroid bio transformation of cholesterol.

Blood samples were analyzed for haemato-biochemical parameters and blood parasites. Giemsa stained blood smear revealed the presence of morulae inclusion over monocytes. The dog was treated with a triple therapy protocol, and supportive care was provided. The dog exhibited signs of recovery from the third day of treatment. Follow-up examination on the seventh day revealedthe absence of morulae stage of Ehrlichia spp. and a gradual increase in blood cells.
