Havva Eda Üstüntaş | Ramazan İlhan Aytekin | Sevgi Çalışkan
Organic farming aims not to use chemical inputs, to increase quality not the yield, control and certify every steps of the production and is a human and environmental friendly production system. In recent years, use of organic food has increased parallel with the increasing interest in the environmental protection and safe foods in the developed countries. Turkey has a great potential for organic farming due to its wide diversity of climatic and soil conditions. KOP (Konya Plain Project) Region, includes the provinces as Aksaray, Karaman, Konya, Niğde, has a wide agricultural fields where not used chemical fertilizer and not contaminated with pesticides. Therefore this region is very important for organic agriculture. In 2013 year, planting area is 769.014 hectares and organic production is 1.620.466 tons in Turkey. KOP Region has a 0.47% planting area and 3.4% organic production in Turkey. Niğde which had the first rank in terms of organic production, constituted about 61% organic production amount. KOP Region could present significant opportunities and benefits to potential investors in terms of organic farming. In KOP Region, organic farming practices should be cared and supported.

Plant poisoning in grazing animals is more common in Bangladesh, especially during the scarcity period. The present study was undertaken to find out the epidemiology of Blumea lacera fresh plant poisoning and its management in cattle. A total of 765 suspected clinical cases were examined, of these 48 were diagnosed as Blumea lacera plant poisoning. The poisoning was found more in local cattle (92%) than that of crossbred (8%) cattle. Most of the cases were found in autumn (71%), in compare to summer (23%) and winter (6%). The highest occurrence of poisoning was observed in cattle of 6 months to 2 years of age (57%) in comparison to other age category. Therapeutic response (16%) was found if treatments were given within 4 hours of ingestion of the plant and the effective treatment was a combination of laxative, normal saline, vitamin B1. Veterinarian can apply this treatment during Blumea lacera poisoning in animals.

Suresh Baban Dagade | Nanadasana Jagdish Nasibhai | Hariprasanna Krishna | Bhatt Virendra Mulshankar | Dhaduk Lallubhai Keshavbhai | Barad Agarsang Virsanbhai
Eight nearly homozygous, horticulturally superior and optimally divergent lines of tomato having Indian and exotic adaptability were used for carrying out half diallel design to study General Combining Ability (GCA) and Specific Combining Ability (SCA) estimates for fruit weight, polar and equatorial diameter, locules fruit-1, pericarp thickness and fruit firmness. The variances due to both GCA and SCA were significant, suggesting that both additive and non additive genetic variance were involved for genetic control of the character fruit polar and equatorial diameter, and locules number in F1 and F2 generations. However, the variance due to GCA was more pronounced for fruit weight, pericarp thickness and firmness as a result of additive gene action. Due to their high general combining ability effects, exotic parents Ec 490130 and Ec 177371 producing firm fruited small to medium sized tomato fruits having constant expression of GCA effects over the generationsregarded as best general combiners. The crosses GT 1 x Ec 490130 and Ec 490130 x Ec 398704 having high x high and high x low combinations, respectively in F1. While in F2, GT 1 x Ec 177371 and H 24 x Ec 490130 having high x high and high x low combining lines were considered as best crosses for greater fruit firmness. Therefore, heterosis breeding in F1 and selection of desirable lines in F2 generation is recommended for further improvements were suggested for future hybridization programmes.

2015
Mahmut Çinar | Ugur Serbester | Ayhan Ceyhan
The aim of the present work was to examine the effects of anionic salts (MgCl2 or MgSO4) supplementation on metabolic profile, peripartum diseases and pregnancy rate of dairy cows during the prepartum period. Fourty five Holstein dairy cows were placed on 1 of 3 prepartum treatments. Treatment groups were balanced body condition score as far as similar. Treatments were total mixed ration (TMR) without anionic salt (control), TMR supplemented with 30 g/d/cow MgCl2 or TMR supplemented with 30 g/d/cow MgSO4. After parturation, all groups were fed with same TMR. The presynch-ovsynch protocol was used and fixed time artificial insemination was done after 30 days postpartum. The experiment was lasted for 8 weeks of postpartum. Cows fed MgCl2 supplemented TMR increased milk yield compared with control and MgSO4 supplemented TMR. Supplementing anionic salts reduced serum AST and ALT concentrations, increased serum glucose, HDL, IgG, Ca and Mg concentrations. Health and reproductive performance were not different between treatments. These data suggets that anionic salts supplementation in TMR during prepartum can alter milk yield and blood biochemical parameters.

Muzaffer Denli | Ramazan Demirel | Abdullah Sessiz
This research was carried out by visiting total 14 feed mills (8 of them are active, 6 of them are passive) in Diyarbakır province in order to get information on feedstuffs, production, quality, technical capacity, marketing, problems and expectations from public authority. Each feed mill were visited, data were collected by face to face interview, total 34 questions were asked and results were evaluated. According to survey results; total technical capacity of feed mills in Diyarbakır is 388.800 Ton/year, however active capacity is 230.400 Ton/year and their plant utilization is quite low (50.3%), average feed production capacity is 11.9 Ton/hour, daily production is 403 Ton. Feed industrialists primarily indicated that unconscious farmers (85.7%), higher feedstuff price (75%) and unfair competition and unregistered production (62.5%) are the most important problems in the industry. Cereals, wheat bran and cottonseed meal were obtained from South-eastern Anatolia Region, however, other feedstuffs and feed additives were bought from other regions of Turkey. Primary preferences of buying of feedstuffs are: quality of feedstufs 50%, easily obtaining 31%, cheap 19% for feedstuffs. Manufactured feeds were marketed by as follows; 34% distributers, 33% distributors and in factory, 22% directly to farmer and 11% in other ways. As a result, technical facilities were found adequate, feed mill owners are conscious to establish laboratory, they have enough production capacity but, except one of them, they produce only one shift in a day.
