The Northeast region of Brazil has the second highest number of species of the Myrtaceae family. It is mostly covered by the Caatinga biome, which is very degraded, making it difficult to preserve species of this family. Thus, the objective of this work was to describe the seed, seedling, and fruit morphology, and seed germination of Psidium sobralianum Landrum & Proença plants of the São Francisco Valley, Brazil. The fruits were collected in an area of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa Semiarid), in Petrolina PE, Brazil. The evaluations consisted of determinations of fruit shape, consistency, and number of seeds; seed form, cotyledons, hilum, hypocotyl-radicle axis, and embryo type; epicarp, mesocarp, endocarp, and seed staining; longitudinal, transversal, and ventral diameters of fruits and seeds; fruit, pulp, and seed fresh and dry masses; germination test; first count of germinated seeds; germination speed index; shoot and root lengths; shoot and root fresh and dry masses; and imbibition test. Psidium sobralianum has polyspermic, berry fruits, subclassified as solanidium, with persistent sepals and globular shape, consisting of epicarp, mesocarp, endocarp and seeds. The fruits have green with orange epicarp, pale-green mesocarp, and white endocarp. The seeds have a pilose and bony aspect, a pimentoid type of embryo, foliaceous cotyledons, presence of operculum and hilum, and pale-yellow tegument. The germination is epigeal phanerocotiledonar, with root protrusion from 26 days after sowing (DAS); it presents a short, glabrous, thick radicle, and a rounded, pale-green apex. The germination is slow, probably due to the mechanical barrier of the tegument, and stabilizes at 90 DAS.

Objetivou-se caracterizar a morfologia de frutos, sementes, plântulas e a germinação de araçá (Psidium sobralianum) do vale do São Francisco. Os frutos foram coletados na Embrapa Semiárido, Petrolina, PE e submetidos as análises: formato, consistência e número de sementes por fruto; forma, cotilédones, hilo, eixo hipocótilo-radícula e tipo de embrião das sementes; coloração do epicarpo, mesocarpo, endocarpo e semente; diâmetros longitudinal, transversal e ventral de frutos e sementes; massas frescas e secas de frutos, polpa e sementes; teste de germinação; primeira contagem; índice de velocidade de germinação; comprimento das partes aérea e radicular; massas frescas e secas aérea e radicular; teste de embebição. P. sobralianum possui fruto solanídio, pétalas persistentes, formato globular, polispérmico, composto de epicarpo, mesocarpo, endocarpo e sementes. O epicarpo tem coloração verde com laranja, mesocarpo verde-claro e endocarpo branco. Sementes com aspecto piloso e ósseo, embrião pimentoide, cotilédones foliáceos, presença de opérculo, hilo e tegumento amarelo-claro. Germinação epígea fanerocotiledonar, com protrusão radicular a partir dos 26 dias após a semeadura (DAS), radícula curta, glabra, espessa, ápice arredondado e verde-claro. A germinação é lenta, provavelmente devido a barreira mecânica do tegumento, estabilizando-se apenas aos 90 DAS.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the agronomic performance of erect and semi-erect cowpea elite lines grown in the States of Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso, Brazil. The experiments were conducted in Jaíba, Janaúba, Sete Lagoas (Minas Gerais), Primavera do Leste and Nova Ubiratã (Mato Grosso), with 20 genotypes of cowpea, arranged in a randomized block design with four replications. The data were subjected to individual and joint analyses of variance and means grouped by the Scott-Knott test (p<0.05). The plant growth habit, lodging, cultivation value, pod length and bean yield were evaluated. The lines MNC04-768F-21 and MNC04F-795F-168 had the highest bean yield in the experiments conducted in Mato Grosso, and their growth habit, lodging and cultivation value were similar to those of the cultivar BRS-Guariba. The lines MNC04-769F-30, MNC05-795F-154 and MNC04-769F-49 and the cultivar BRS-Tumucumaque had the highest bean yield in the experiments conducted in Minas Gerais. However, the cultivars BRS-Guariba, BRS-Tumucumaque, BRS-Novaera, BRS-Itaim and BRS-Cauamé and the lines MNC04-792F-143 and MNC04-792F-144 showed satisfactory bean yield and good growth habit, plant lodging and cultivation value in the State of Minas Gerais, especially in the northern region of the state (Jaíba and Janaúba), representing good alternatives for the genotypes recommended for this region.

RESUMO O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar o desempenho de linhagens elite de feijão-caupi de porte ereto e semiereto em ambientes de Mato Grosso e Minas Gerais. Os ensaios foram conduzidos em Jaíba, Janaúba e Sete Lagoas em Minas Gerais, e em Primavera do Leste e Nova Ubiratã em Mato Grosso. Foram avaliados 20 genótipos de feijão-caupi. Utilizou-se o delineamento de blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. Os dados obtidos foram submetidos a análises de variância individuais e conjunta e as médias agrupadas pelo teste de Scott-Knott (P<0,05). Foram avaliados os caracteres porte da planta, acamamento, valor de cultivo, comprimento de vagem e rendimento de grãos. Nos ambientes do Mato Grosso, destacaram-se as linhagens MNC04-768F-21 e MNC04F-795F-168 como as mais produtivas e com características de porte da planta, acamamento e valor de cultivo semelhantes às da cultivar BRS Guariba. Nos ambientes de Minas Gerais, especialmente na região Norte do Estado, representada pelos ambientes de Jaíba e Janaúba, destacaram-se como mais produtivas as linhagens MNC04-769F-30, MNC05-795F-154, MNC04-769F-49 e a cultivar BRS Tumucumaque. Entretanto, as cultivares BRS Guariba, BRS Tumucumaque, BRS Novaera, BRS Itaim e BRS Cauamé, e as linhagens MNC04-792F-143 e MNC04-792F-144 apresentam produtividades satisfatórias e boas características de porte, acamamento e valor de cultivo, representando boas alternativas para recomendação de cultivo nesta região. | ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to evaluate the agronomic performance of erect and semi-erect cowpea elite lines grown in the States of Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso, Brazil. Rio Grande do Norte has mountain formations with edaphoclimatic conditions different from those predominating in the state, presenting deeper,acid soils, and milder climate. Among these formations, is the Santana mountain range, which is part of the Serra do Martins Formation. The objective of this work was to interpret the pedogenesis of the representative soils of the Santana mountain range through morphological, physical, and chemical characterizations of soil profiles and evaluate the effect of these attributes on the distribution of pedological forms along the landscape using multivariate analysis. Morphological, physical, and chemical analyses of seven soil profiles of the Santana mountain range were performed. The soils were classified according to the Brazilian Soil Classification System and the data subjected to multivariate analysis. The representative soil classes found were: LATOSSOLO AMARELO Distrófico argissólico; LATOSSOLO AMARELO Eutrófico argissólico; NEOSSOLO QUARTZARÊNICO Órtico típico; NEOSSOLO LITÓLICO Eutrófico fragmentário; NEOSSOLO REGOLÍTICO Eutrófico típico and CAMBISSOLO HÁPLICO Tb Eutrófico léptico. According to the analysis of the morphological attributes, the parent material had great influence on the formation of the different soil classes found in the Santana mountain range. The soil textural classes varied from sand to sandy clay loam. According to the analysis of the chemical attributes, the soil profiles presented acid reaction, great variation of base saturation, and low electrical conductivity. The multivariate analysis established groups of representative soil profiles of the Santana mountain range through the distinction of their physical and chemical attributes, mainly of subsurface diagnostic horizons.

RESUMO O Rio Grande do Norte possui formações serranas que diferem das condições edafoclimáticas predominantes no estado, apresentando solos mais profundos, ácidos e clima mais ameno. Dentre estas formações, destaca-se a Serra de Santana, que está inserida na Formação dos Martins. Com isto, objetivou-se neste trabalho interpretar a pedogênese dos solos representativos da Serra de Santana através da caracterização morfológica, física e química de perfis de solos e relacionar a influência de tais atributos na distribuição das pedoformas ao longo da paisagem, utilizando ferramentas de análise multivariada. Foram realizadas análises morfológicas, físicas e químicas de sete perfis de solos que compõem a Serra de Santana, os quais foram classificados de acordo com o Sistema Brasileiro de Classificação do Solo e os dados submetidos a análise multivariada. As classes de solos representativas foram classificadas como: LATOSSOLO AMARELO Distrófico argissólico; LATOSSOLO AMARELO Eutróficoargissólico; NEOSSOLO QUARTZARÊNICO Órtico típico; NEOSSOLO LITÓLICO Eutrófico fragmentário; NEOSSOLO REGOLÍTICO Eutrófico típico e CAMBISSOLO HÁPLICO Tb Eutróficoléptico. Ao observar os atributos morfológicos percebeu-se que houve grande influência do material de origem na distinção das principais classes de solo encontradas na Serra. A classe textural dos perfis variou de areia a franco-argilo-arenosa. Em relação aos atributos químicos, todos os perfis apresentaram reação ácida, grande variação de saturação por bases entre os perfis e baixos valores de condutividade elétrica. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of chemical treatment of seeds with fungicide and insecticide on the seed physiological quality of Brachiaria brizantha cultivar MG5. Two experiments with four replicates were carried out in a completely randomized design. In the first experiment, the seeds were treated with the fungicide pyraclostrobin + fipronil + thiophanate-methyl and in the second, with the insecticide thiamethoxam, both at doses of 0, 150, 300, 450, and 600 mL of commercial product (CP)/100 kg of seeds. Physiological characterization was done on the basis of the first germination count, germination (%), emergence (%), emergence speed index, and length and dry mass of shoot and root. The treatment of B. brizantha seeds with the fungicide pyraclostrobin + fipronil + thiophanate-methyl benefits the physiological quality of seeds, improving germination and root development, with no phytotoxic effect up to the dose of 600 mL of CP/100 kg of seeds. The insecticide thiamethoxam has a biostimulating effect on B. brizantha cultivar MG5 up to the dose of 270 mL of CP/100 kg of seeds, but is phytotoxic in larger doses.

MG5. Foram realizados dois experimentos em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com quatro repetições. No primeiro experimento, as sementes foram tratadas com o fungicida piraclostrobina+fipronil+tiofanato metílico e no segundo com o inseticida tiametoxam, ambos nas doses 0; 150; 300; 450 e 600 mL do p.c. 100 kg de sementes-1. A caracterização fisiológica foi realizada por meio da primeira contagem de germinação, germinação, emergência, índice de velocidade de emergência e comprimento e massa seca de raiz e parte aérea. O tratamento de sementes de B. brizantha com o fungicida piraclostrobina+fipronil+tiofanato metílico beneficia a qualidade fisiológica das sementes, incrementando a germinação e o desenvolvimento radicular, não apresentando efeito fitotóxico até a dose de 600 mL p.c. 100 kg sementes-1. O inseticida tiametoxam apresenta efeito bioestimulante em sementes de B. brizantha cv. MG5 até a dose 270 mL p.c. 100 kg de sementes-1, sendo fitotóxico para as doses maiores.

Weed residues can influence nutrient cycling in agroecosystems. Quantifying this potential nutrient source may influence weed control and fertilisation practices. Nicandra physalodes (L.) Gaertn. is a weed with a short life cycle and a great ability to accumulate dry matter. Field observations suggest that N. physaloides residues are easily decomposed in soil. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of increasing of N, P and K doses on the growth of N. physalodes, as well as the nutrient content, chemical characteristics and C/N ratio of the weed. A randomised block design, arranged in split-plot with three replications, was utilised. The main plots were given four doses of NPK (Dose 1 - 0, 0.3 and 17.2 mg dm-3; Dose 2 - 30, 450.3 and 75.4 mg dm-3; Dose 3 - 60, 900.3 and 133.4 mg dm-3; and Dose 4 - 120, 1800.3 and 249.68 mg dm-3), and the subplots were harvested at ten time points after emergence (26, 33, 40, 47, 54, 61, 76, 91, 106 and 121 days). Higher dry matter production and N, P and K content were observed in plants grown on higher levels of fertiliser. The increase of N, P and K levels in the soil resulted in greater total accumulation of these macronutrients. The highest macronutrient contents were K and N. The treatments did not affect neutral detergent fibre (NDF), acid detergent fibre (ADF) and C/N ratio of plant. N. physalodes had low C/N ratio, low NDF and ADF levels, and great nutrient accumulation, suggesting that this plant is quickly decomposed, providing a rapid cycling of nutrients.

RESUMO Os resíduos de plantas daninhas são importantes para a ciclagem de nutrientes nos agroecossistemas. A quantificação desta potencial fonte de nutrientes pode influenciar o manejo dessas plantas e as práticas de adubação. Nicandra physalodes (L.) Gaertn. (joá-de-capote) é uma planta daninha de ciclo curto com rápido crescimento e grande capacidade de acumular biomassa. Dessa forma, objetivou-se conhecer o potencial de acúmulo e ciclagem de nutrientes de N. physalodes e avaliar se o aumento de nitrogênio (N), fósforo (P) e potássio (K) no solo influenciam essas características. Utilizou-se delineamento de blocos casualizados, arranjado em parcelas subdivididas com três repetições. As parcelas foram constituídas de quatro doses crescente de N, P e K (Dose 1 - 0, 0,3 e 17,2; Dose 2 - 30, 450,3 e 75,4; Dose 3 - 60, 900,3 e 133,4 e Dose 4 - 120, 1800,3 e 249,68 mg dm-3) e as subparcelas de dez épocas de coleta das plantas (26, 33, 40, 47, 54, 61, 76, 91, 106 e 121 dias após emergência). O aumento nos níveis de N, P e K no solo proporcionou maiores produções de massa seca e acúmulo total desses macronutrientes em plantas de N. physalodes, sendo que os maiores acúmulos foram de K e N. A adubação não influenciou os teores de fibra em detergente neutro (FDN), fibra em detergente ácido (FDA) e a relação carbono/ nitrogênio da planta. N. physalodes apresenta baixa relação C/N, o que aliado aos baixos teores de FDN e FDA e ao bom acúmulo de nutrientes, sugere que o material vegetal dessa planta seja rapidamente decomposto, proporcionando uma ciclagem rápida de nutrientes no solo. | ABSTRACT Weed residues can influence nutrient cycling in agroecosystems. Quantifying this potential nutrient source may influence weed control and fertilisation practices. Nicandra physalodes (L.) Gaertn. is a weed with a short life cycle and a great ability to accumulate dry matter. Field observations suggest that N. physaloides residues are easily decomposed in soil. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of increasing of N, P and K doses on the growth of N. physalodes, as well as the nutrient content, chemical characteristics and C/N ratio of the weed. A randomised block design, arranged in split-plot with three replications, was utilised. The main plots were given four doses of NPK (Dose 1 - 0, 0.3 and 17.2 mg dm-3; Dose 2 - 30, 450.3 and 75.4 mg dm-3; Dose 3 - 60, 900.3 and 133.4 mg dm-3; and Dose 4 - 120, 1800.3 and 249.68 mg dm-3), and the subplots were harvested at ten time points after emergence (26, 33, 40, 47, 54, 61, 76, 91, 106 and 121 days). Higher dry matter production and N, P and K content were observed in plants grown on higher levels of fertiliser. The increase of N, P and K levels in the soil resulted in greater total accumulation of these macronutrients. The highest macronutrient contents were K and N. The treatments did not affect neutral detergent fibre (NDF), acid detergent fibre (ADF) and C/N ratio of plant. N. physalodes had low C/N ratio, low NDF and ADF levels, and great nutrient accumulation, suggesting that this plant is quickly decomposed, providing a rapid cycling of nutrients.

ABSTRACT Among the factors negatively impacting guava (Psidium guajava) crop in Brazil, one of the most important is the root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne enterolobii, which may cause considerable yield losses and even the cessation of guava cultivation in some areas. In addition to affecting guava, the pathogen has been reported as a parasite in various other crops, among them both oleraceous and ornamental crops, as well as in spontaneous vegetation. The aim of this study was to verify the occurrence of M. enterolobii in plants collected in guava orchards in different counties of Ceará state, identified through electrophoresis with the isoenzyme esterase, and to observe its infecting behavior into Meloidogyne differentiating plants. Fifty root samples from guava, tasselflower (Emilia fosbergii), and jurubeba (Solanum paniculatum), were collected in 13 counties from eight micro-regions in the state of Ceará. In all analyzed samples, only esterase phenotype M2 (Rm: 0.6; 0.9), characteristic of M. enterolobii, was detected, showing that the nematode is widespread in orchards throughout the state, where is affecting these fruit tree, and that it is also able to parasitizing plants of the spontaneous vegetation. Based on the results, this nematode currently constitutes a serious threat to guava plantations in Ceará, and effective control mechanisms are crucial to prevent the spread of this pathogen to other, still unaffected, areas. | RESUMO Dentre os problemas que afetam a cultura da goiabeira (Psidium guajava) no Brasil, destaca-se o nematoide das galhas Meloidogyne enterolobii, o qual pode provocar consideráveis perdas na produção e tornar inviáveis áreas para o cultivo da fruteira. Além da goiabeira, o patógeno já foi relatado parasitando diversas outras culturas dentre olerícolas, ornamentais, como também em plantas de vegetação espontânea. Objetivou-se, com este trabalho, verificar a dispersão de M. enterolobii em plantas coletadas em pomares de goiabeiras em diferentes municípios do Ceará, empregando na identificação a técnica da eletroforese com a isoenzima esterase e observar o comportamento do patógeno em espécies diferenciadoras de Meloidogyne. Analisaram-se aproximadamente 50 amostras de raízes obtidas de goiabeiras, de falsa serralha (Emilia fosbergii) e de jurubeba (Solanum paniculatum) coletadas em 13 municípios pertencentes a oito microrregiões do estado. Em todas as amostras analisadas detectou-se apenas o fenótipo de esterase M2 (Rm: 0,6; 0,9) característico de M. enterolobii, indicando que o nematoide está disseminado no estado afetando a fruteira e que pode permanecer na área parasitando plantas da vegetação espontânea. Com as informações obtidas, verificou-se que este nematoide constitui, atualmente, uma séria ameaça aos cultivos da goiabeira no Ceará e que práticas efetivas de controle são requeridas para evitar a dispersão desse patógeno em áreas ainda isentas do fitoparasita.

ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to evaluate Fusarium guttiforme inoculation methods and genetic resistance of pineapple accessions. Thus, three experiments were conducted: pathogen inoculation of different leaf types (B, D and F) of pineapple (1), pathogen inoculation of pineapple cuttings and detached D leaves (2), and identification of resistance to fusariosis in 19 pineapple accessions (3) sampled in the State of Mato Grosso, Brazil. The cultivars Pérola (susceptible to fusariosis) and BRS-Vitória (resistant to fusariosis) were used as controls. The fusariosis severity was evaluated at 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 days after inoculation with F. guttiforme. The lesion diameters (severity level) were used in order to calculate the area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC). The inoculation of detached D leaves was the most efficient, fast and inexpensive method, and the one that most satisfactorily reproduced the disease symptoms. The period of 10 to 20 days after inoculation of the D detached leaves with the pathogen is the most suitable to evaluate the resistance of pineapple accessions to fusariosis. The lowest lesion area and AUDPC was found in the accession 1, in all evaluations. Thus, the accession 1 can be used in pineapple breeding programs for resistance to fusariosis. | RESUMO Objetivou-se avaliar métodos de inoculação de Fusarium guttiforme e a resistência genética em acessos de abacaxizeiro. Para isso, foram realizados três experimentos, a saber: 1- inoculações em folhas de abacaxizeiro dos tipos B, D e F; 2- inoculações em folhas “D” destacadas e em mudas de abacaxizeiro e 3- identificação de resistência à fusariose em 19 acessos de abacaxizeiros coletados no estado de Mato Grosso. As cultivares Pérola (suscetível à fusariose) e BRS-Vitória (resistente à fusariose) foram utilizadas como testemunhas. As avaliações de severidade da fusariose foram conduzidas aos 10, 15, 20, 25 e 30 dias, após inoculação de F. guttiforme. Foram utilizados os diâmetros das lesões (quantificação da severidade), para o cálculo da área abaixo da curva de progresso da doença (AACPD). Dentre os métodos avaliados, observou -se que o método de inoculação em folhas D destacadas foi o mais eficiente, rápido e de baixo custo, além de reproduzir satisfatoriamente os sintomas da doença. O período indicado para avaliar acessos resistentes a fusariose é entre 10 e 20 dias após inoculação do patógeno, em folhas D destacadas. No acesso 1 foi observada menor área de lesão e AACPD, em todas as avaliações realizadas. Este acesso pode ser recomendado para compor programas de melhoramento do abacaxizeiro visando resistência à fusariose.

RESUMO A produção de hortaliças é caracterizada pelo uso intensivo da terra, pela alta demanda de insumos e pela necessidade de gestão estratégica com uma abordagem agroecológica para sustentar a produção. Indicadores agronômicos foram avaliados em alface adubada com diferentes quantidades de biomassa de Flor - de-seda, em diferentes épocas de incorporação ao solo e plantadas em duas estações de cultivo (primavera e outono-inverno) em Serra Talhada, Pernambuco, Brazil. O delineamento experimental consistiu em blocos ao acaso com três repetições e os tratamentos arranjados em esquema fatorial 4 x 4. O primeiro fator foi à quantidade de biomassa de Flor-de-seda (5,4; 8,8; 12,2 e 15,6 t ha-1 em base seca) e o segundo os tempos de incorporação do adubo (0, 10, 20 e 30 dias antes do transplante da alface). As características avaliadas na cultura da alface foram: diâmetro de plantas, número de folhas por planta, altura de plantas, produtividade de massa verde e massa seca da parte aérea. As produtividades máximas de massa verde e seca foram obtidas na quantidade de biomassa de Flor-de-seda de 15,6 t ha-1 incorporada no solo. Observou-se uma sincronia entre a oferta de nutrientes pelo adubo verde e o período de máxima demanda pela alface nos tempos de incorporação de 10 (primavera) e 20 dias (outono-inverno) antes do transplantio. O cultivo na primavera resultou em maior crescimento vegetativo para a cultura. | ABSTRACT The production of vegetable crops is characterized by intensive land use, high input demands and the requirement of strategic management adoption with an agro-ecological approach. In this study, agronomic indicators were evaluated in lettuce fertilized with different amounts of roostertree biomass; fertilizer was incorporated into the soil at distinct times and seedlings were planted in two cropping seasons (spring and autumn-winter) in Serra Talhada, Pernambuco state, Brazil. The experimental design consisted of randomized complete blocks with three replications and treatments arranged in a 4 x 4 factorial scheme. The first factor was the amounts of roostertree biomass (5.4, 8.8, 12.2, and 15.6 t ha -1 on a dry basis) and the second the manure incorporation times (0, 10, 20, and 30 days before lettuce transplanting). The variables evaluated in the lettuce crop were: plant height and diameter, number of leaves per plant, productivity of green mass, and dry shoot mass. Maximum productivity and dry shoot mass were obtained using fertilization with 15.6 t ha -1. A synchrony between supply of nutrients by green manure and the period of maximum demand by lettuce was observed in the incorporation times of 10 (spring) and 20 (autumn-winter) days before transplanting. Cultivation in the spring resulted in higher vegetative growth.

Resumo Objetivou-se, com este trabalho, caracterizar as repostas fisiológicas aclimatativas de plantas jovens de coqueiro Anão, cultivar ―Verde do Jiqui‖, associadas com a sua tolerância às condições de múltiplos estresses abióticos (deficiência hídrica e salinidade do solo), atuando isolados e/ou combinados. O estudo foi realizado sob condições controladas e avaliaram-se: as trocas gasosas foliares, o rendimento quântico da fluorescência da clorofila a e os teores relativos de clorofila total (índice Spad). O experimento foi conduzido sob delineamento estatístico de blocos casualizados, no arranjo de parcelas subdivididas, sendo as parcelas constituídas por diferentes níveis de deficiência hídrica, mediante a imposição de cinco distintos percentuais de reposição das perdas de água por evapotranspiração potencial da cultura (100; 80; 60; 40 e 20%) e as subparcelas constituídas pelos crescentes níveis de salinidade do solo (1,72; 6,25; 25,80 e 40,70 dS m-1). Os mecanismos fisiológicos são efetivamente limitados quando a deficiência hídrica e a salinidade atuam isoladamente e/ou em conjunto. Os efeitos do estresse hídrico se mostram mais efetivos nos comprometimentos dos parâmetros fisiológicos, em detrimento à salinidade do solo. As magnitudes das respostas das plantas ao suprimento hídrico e à salinidade dependem das intensidades dos estresses e das épocas de avaliação. As respostas fisiológicas aclimatativas das plantas estão relacionadas, principalmente, à regulação estomática. O coqueiro apresenta uma série de mecanismos de ajustes fisiológicos que conferem à espécie uma parcial tolerância ao estresse hídrico e/ou salino, tornando-a capaz de revegetar áreas salinizadas, desde que as necessidades hídricas sejam ao menos parcialmente atendidas. | ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to characterize the physiological acclimation responses of young plants of the dwarf coconut cultivar Jiqui Green‘ associated with tolerance to conditions of multiple abiotic stresses (drought and soil salinity), acting either independently or in combination. The study was conducted under controlled conditions and evaluated the following parameters: leaf gas exchange, quantum yield of chlorophyll a fluorescence, and relative contents of total chlorophyll (SPAD index). The experiment was conducted under a randomized block experimental design, in a split plot arrangement. In the plots, plants were exposed to different levels of water stress, by imposing potential crop evapotranspiration replacement levels equivalent to 100%, 80%, 60%, 40%, and 20%, whereas in subplots, plants were exposed to different levels of soil salinity (1.72, 6.25, 25.80, and 40.70 dS m-1). Physiological mechanisms were effectively limited when water deficit and salinity acted separately and/or together. Compared with soil salinity, water stress was more effective in reducing the measured physiological parameters. The magnitudes of the responses of plants to water supply and salinity depended on the intensity of stress and evaluation period. The physiological acclimation responses of plants were mainly related to stomatal regulation. The coconut tree has a number of physiological adjustment mechanisms that give the species partial tolerance to drought stress and/or salt, thereby enabling it to revegetate salinated areas, provided that its water requirements are at least partially met.

RESUMO As frutas de mangabeiras são coletadas extrativamente em populações nativas sob grande pressão antrópica, devendo-se obter informações morfogenéticas para ações com reflexos no melhoramento genético que possam evitar a sua erosão genética. Esta pesquisa realizada no Amapá, teve como objetivo verificar a dissimilaridade morfológica entre duas populações, uma composta por 36 progênies nativas e outra com 8 da Paraíba, delineados em látices, com duas repetições e seis plantas por parcela. As características avaliadas foram: valor agronômico (VA); circunferência da copa da planta (CCP); altura da planta (ALP); número estimado de frutos na planta (NEF); cor do fruto (COF); peso médio de dez frutos (PMF); diâmetro do fruto (DF); peso médio da polpa de dez frutos (PMP); comprimento médio de dez frutos (CMF); número médio de sementes de dez frutos (NMS). As principais conclusões obtidas indicaram que o fenótipo foi devido principalmente as respostas às variações ambientais; nas correlações, características inerentes aos frutos (peso, tamanho e cor) não influenciaram o VA, enquanto que os caracteres biométricos influenciaram, plantas mais altas apresentaram frutos maiores e as com maior diâmetro maior quantidade, há também aparente compensação, com maior quantidade de frutos, estes são menores; as populações são dissimilares, indicando possibilidade da obtenção de segregantes divergentes superiores. | ABSTRACT Mangabeira fruits are collected from native populations under anthropic pressure. It is therefore essential to obtain morphogenetic information to genetically improve populations, thereby preventing genetic erosion. This research was carried out in the state Amapá and aimed to verify the morphological dissimilarity between two populations, one composed of 36 native progenies and one of eight progenies from Paraiba, outlined in lattices with two replications and six plants per part. The evaluated characteristics were: agronomic value (VA), treetop circumference (CCP), plant height (ALP), estimated number of fruits per plant (NEF), fruit color (COF), average weight of 10 fruits (PMF), fruit diameter (DF), average pulp weight of ten fruits (PMP), average length of 10 fruits (CMF), average number of seeds of 10 fruits (NMS). Our results indicate that the phenotype was mainly determined by responses to environmental changes; in the correlations, inherent fruit characteristics (weight, size, and color) did not affect the VA, while biometric characters influenced VA values. Higher plants presented larger fruits and a larger diameter, bigger quantities, there is also apparent contrast, with a larger amount of smaller size; the populations are dissimilar, indicating the possibility of obtaining of diverging superior segregating.
