[Valuation of pollution caused by the discharge of olive vegetation water into the "Vomano", "Saline" and "Foro" rivers (Abruzzo) [oil mills, Italy]]

Sampling was carried out during the 1975-76 olive oil production period, of water from the Vomano, Saline and Foro rivers, in order to ascertain the pollution caused by the discharge of vegetation water coming from oil mills operating in their catchment areas. An examination of the waters was effected and included: the dissolved oxygen, the B.O.D., the C.O.D., and the total polyphenols. The investigation revealed that the water of the Vomano river keep a good type, even if it feel a little the effect of the olive vegtation water discharge. The waters of the Saline and Foro rivers, on the contrary, already polluted by municipal wastewater, feel more fully the effect of the oil mill discharges.

Durante la campagna oleicola 1975-76 sono stati effetuati prelievi periodoci di acqua dai fiumi Vomano, Saline e Foro al fine di accertare l'entita degli inquinamento causati dallo smaltimento delle acque di vegetazione delle olive da parte dei frantoi operanti nei bacini imbriferi di tali corsi di acqua. Sui campioni prelevati sono stati determinati: l'ossigeno disciolto, il B.O.D., il C.O.D. ed i fenoli totali. L'indagine ha messo in evidenza che le acque del fiume Vomano, anche se influenzate dallo scarico delle acque di vegetazione delle olive, possono essere ritenute costantement buone. Quelle dei fiumi Saline e Foro, invece, risentendo gia notevolmente dell'aporto inquinanate delle acque reflue urbane, subiscono un ulteriore danno per effetto degli scarichi di frantoio
