Control of parasitic infections in nonpermissive hosts: applications to improvement of vaccine efficacy [Schistosoma]
1982
Knopf, P.M. (Brown Univ., Providence, RI (USA). Div. of Biology and Medicine)
An understanding of the anti-parasite processes operating in nonpermissive hosts is viewed as providing novel opportunities for controlling infections in permissive hosts. The influence of host thyroid hormones on limiting the survival and development of Schistosoma mansoni in laboratory rats is described. Speculation on a mechanism involving a hormone-influenced host immune response in the intra-capillary trapping of worms is presented.
