Relation of potassium to fusarium with disease of tomato (in Iraq)

Two varieties of tomato, local and Super-Marimond were grown in sand silt cultures either sterilized or pre-infected with the fungus causing Fusarium with disease of tomato. Different concentrations of potassium were used and some of the results were: Rate of growth of the fungus increased significantly with the increase of potassium concentration. For Super-Marimond in pre-infected culture compared with that of local variety for which germination percentage decreased under pre-infected conditions. Pre-infection with the fungus reduced dry fresh weights of plants whereas increasing concentration of potassium in natural solution increased dry fresh weights. There was significant reduction in infection with the increase in potassium concentration in un-balanced nutrient solution, but there was no such effect for potassium fertilizer when added before pre-infection. There was negative relation between disease severity and potassium concentration
